Reporting to the Engineering & Maintenance Manager, the Instrumentation & Calibration Specialist is responsible for overseeing, scheduling, and executing all functions related to all instrument calibrations within the production and laboratory environment.The incumbent will perform in-house calibrations and maintain NIST traceable documents on equipment which includes but is not limited to temperature, pressure, force, length and many electronic measurements.

This position is located in Windsor, Ontario, one of two sites located in Canada offering softgel development and manufacturing capabilities for the Pharmaceutical and Consumer Health industries. We have a broad range of integrated formulation, manufacturing, analytical and packaging services to offer full-service turnkey solutions.

Regular working hours: Monday - Friday; 8:00 AM-4:30 PM or 8:30 AM-5:00 PM with a 30-minute unpaid lunch

The Role:

  • Comply with all SOPs and GMPs and Determine which instruments need to be outsourced for calibration. Coordinate with outside vendors and lab supervisors to arrange time for on-site calibrations.

  • Record and maintain calibration records and documents and perform minor calibrations on present equipment.

  • Research methods to reduce calibration costs.

  • Assist Q.A. manager in answering surveys from regulatory Agencies and customers and assist project engineers and product development in meeting calibration accuracy requirements for new process equipment and processes.

  • Develop operating SOPs to standardize and govern Calibration practices.

  • Reduce or eliminate regulatory shortcomings with proper record keeping and equipment/instrumentation calibration.

  • Generate recommendations on calibration of equipment.

  • Must be able to work extended hours, weekends as needed, especially when problems occur or when deadlines must be met and Perform other duties as required.

The Candidate:

  • College Diploma in engineering (Indus., Mech., Elec.) is required; bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field is an asset.

  • Alternatively, industrial related technical background will be considered as asset.

  • Minimum 3+ of experience in electrical engineering or related field is preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience using maintenance management software such as MP2.

  • Demonstrating experience using computer design and manufacturing software such as Cadkey, SolidWorks, AutoCAD.

  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Access, Word).

  • Ability to interpret electrical/mechanical drawings.

  • Familiarity with automated computerized maintenance management systems an asset. 

  • Knowledge of automation systems an asset.

  • Must be adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.

  • Experience working in a manufacturing, pharmaceutical and/or GMP facility is an asset.

  • While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear.

  • The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard. Use of manual dexterity is required.

  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, bend or twist, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

  • There is also the potential exposure to chemicals.
