Reporting to the Executive Director or Designate, the Manager of Pastoral Care and Mission Advancement enhances the dignity and quality of life of the residents, clients, co-workers, and volunteers through his/her assumed responsibility for the planning, development, and execution of a Pastoral Care program and Mission Advancement that recognizes the dignity and intrinsic worth of the human person and is designed to assist Good Shepherd Ministries in responding to the needs of the homeless and marginalized in our community.

S/he contributes to our values of Hospitality, Quality, Respect, Responsibility, and Spirituality through a personal and non-invasive presence to those experiencing life’s daily struggles. The Manager of Pastoral Care and Mission Advancement embodies these core values by providing a faithful and stable presence to those affected by homelessness, addiction, mental health issues, and social isolation.

Major duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Executive Director in clearly articulating the Mission of the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God and Good Shepherd Ministries and assist in the integration of this Mission into every aspect of service throughout the organization.
  • Plan and execute a Pastoral Care and Mission Advancement program consistent with the charism of the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God, the mission of Good Shepherd Ministries, and the canonical directives of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Provide comprehensive pastoral care that develops spiritual, emotional, and psychological wholeness for clients, co-workers, and volunteers.
  • Schedule a program of Mission Integration workshops, in-service training, and orientation for Board members, co-workers, new hires, and volunteers, as well as to carry out in conjunction with Human Resources and the Fundraiser, Events, and Resources.
  • Schedule a program of spiritual direction for clients, co-workers, and volunteers on an individual or group basis, particularly for those persons in the Drug and Alcohol Recovery Enrichment (DARE) Program.
  • Schedule and direct appropriate spiritual and liturgical celebrations relating to the major feasts of the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God, the liturgical calendar of the Archdiocese of Toronto, and the universal liturgical year of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Facilitate inter-denominational and inter-faith worship services on a regular basis.
  • Assist in the care and debriefing of persons affected by crisis, disaster, trauma, tragedy, or violent incidents/ ethical and spiritual “end of life” care of those associated with Good Shepherd Ministries
  • Provide a caring presence to co-workers, volunteers, and clients in the dining room during morning drop-in and afternoon meal services.
  • Carry out any other job-related task that may, from time to time, be assigned by the Executive Director or designate.
Qualifications:
  • Actively practices the Mission, Vision and Values of Good Shepherd Ministries.
  • Possesses certification in an accredited (C.P.E.) Clinical Pastoral Care education program or similar qualification.
  • An ability to appreciate the complexity and demands of ‘hard to serve’ individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Possesses strong organizational skills.
  • Possesses excellent writing skills to produce routine memos, correspondence reports, and messages to co-workers.
  • Possesses facilitation skills to direct group dynamics, program workshops, and coworker/volunteer events and services.
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal and communication skills to communicate with clients, co-workers, and volunteers alike, maintain teamwork, and handle and process highly confidential and sensitive information.
  • Compassion and patience in dealing with a complex client group is essential.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to maintain teamwork with the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
This position is for full-time onsite, 40 hours a week. This position qualifies for benefits such as group RRSP and extended health care benefits after completing probation. #J-18808-Ljbffr
