Job Description
- Note: Candidates will work from the EST time Zone also, Banking domain preferred.
- At a very high level the role of an IT, Computer Operator is to oversee the running of computer systems, ensuring that the machine (AS400) and printers across the Country are running properly
- The computer operator normally works in a server room or a data center, but can also work remotely so that they can operate systems across multiple sites.
- Most of their duties are taught on the job, as their job description will vary according to the systems and set-up they help manage.
- The role also includes maintaining records and logging events, listing each backup that is run, each machine malfunction and program abnormal termination.
- Operators assist System administrators and programmers in testing and debugging of new systems and programs prior to their becoming production environments. Overall the operator fills in as a lower level system administrator or operations analyst.
- Most operations departments will work 24x7. An Operator should also have a certain amount of knowledge on disaster recovery and business continuity procedures.
- A candidate with a degree in computer science or a related field would be beneficial however 3 5 years of work experience in an IT environment prove very valuable to this line of work and would be acceptable in the absence of a degree
- Managing User Access (Add, changed, remove)
- Running batch jobs (Billing, Funding, T&M invoice Print and Load
- Producing on demand edits for the business
- Posting legacy batches to JDE for reconciliation to SAP (GL)
- Processing and monitoring batch jobs
- Monitoring the system for messages, failures and abnormalities and reporting them appropriately
- Performing daily, saves and system backups
