Job Purpose: As a key member of the Finance team, this position is responsible for managing and overseeing all accounting functions and related administrative activities. The Accounting Manager will have a hands-on approach with the day-to-day accounting functions, as well as acting as a mentor, establishing ongoing priorities, assigning responsibilities, and ensure that all parts of the company are appropriately supported with complete, accurate, timely and efficient operations. Duties & Responsibilities: Overseeing and assisting with day-to-day accounting functions to ensure accurate and timely completion of tasks within the department. Posting and approving payments through online banking software. Assisting staff with questions regarding processing of daily transactions. Assisting with approval of payables and collection of receivables, as an escalation process. Provide direction, coaching, leadership, and performance management for accounting staff. Maintain staff training standards and complete regular reviews to ensure policies and procedures are being adhered to. Assist in preparing books for year-end for external accountants. Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end accounting transactions including standard entries, cost allocations and accruals. Regular review of Accounts Payable & Receivable to ensure company policies are being adhered to. Analyze income statement accounts for variances and compliance with accounting policies. Account reconciliations, identify issues & trends, and report to executive management. Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring company processes and policies, through the review and creation of department SOP's, and supporting documentation. Work with Human Resources, IT, Project Managers, Accounts Payable & Receivable, other staff and management for training, support and exchanging information. Oversee and/or contribute from time-to-time to Special Projects, and other duties as required. Professional & Educational Background: 10+ years' experience within a variety of Accounting roles. Post-Secondary education in business accounting or finance. Advanced knowledge of current financial best practices and regulations 5+ years in a Management or Leadership role Experience in the Transportation, freight forwarding, and logistics industry is an asset.
