Position Summary Reporting to the Vice President, Professional Practice, Chief Nursing & Allied Health Executive with accountabilities to the VP Medicine, the Executive Director provides senior leadership and direction to the Nurse Practitioner (NP) portfolio that integrates both practice and operational responsibilities including Professional Practice standards and accountabilities, evolving clinical practice and education models, quality care, and Health Sector workforce strategy. The Executive Director leads Nurse Practitioner (NP) strategic planning, including ongoing oversight of NP leadership and operational structures which support NP clinical practice across Northern Health. Provides senior leadership expertise in NP scope of practice and encouraging that Nurse Practitioners in Northern Health engage in clinical care, education, leadership and research. The incumbent collaborates with other executives and senior leaders on all aspects of strategic planning, quality and clinical transformation that cross and affect major segments of the organization to move initiatives forward, ensuring a commitment to quality clinical care across the care continuum. Liaises, strategizes, consults, negotiates, and collaborates with various external healthcare and government organizations both provincially and nationally, including the Ministry of Health Nursing and Allied Health Policy Secretariats, BC Regulatory Colleges, Post-Secondary Academic Institutions, Accreditation Canada, vendors, government agencies, and other stakeholder organizations. Develops collaborative networks within NH including senior operational leaders, NHMAC medical directors and Service Network leaders. The Executive Director, Nurse Practitioners works together in a collaborative leadership model promoting inter-professional practice and a culture of continuous quality improvement. The Executive Director of NPs collaborates with the Executive Directors of Professional Practice (Nursing and Allied), Clinical Informatics and Virtual Health portfolios to collectively drive strategic priorities forward. Qualifications Education and Experience Master’s or Doctoral (DNP/PhD) degree in Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner, plus ten (10) years recent related progressively senior clinical leadership experiences or an equivalent combination education and experience. Experience in leading professional practice, program management, change management or strategic initiative development, implementation and system planning in a large health organization. Demonstrated experience with research process and methodology as well as evaluation of complex systems, program planning, implementation, and evaluation approaches. Current registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as a Nurse Practitioner. Maintains their clinical Nurse Practitioner practice in their area of expertise/interest and must be eligible and maintain active membership as NH medical staff. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Possesses understanding of provincial legislation, health statutes and regulations pertaining to patient care, safety, and quality. Demonstrated understanding of role in advancing NH’s commitment to Indigenous Cultural Safety and initiatives for Truth and Reconciliation. Knowledge of current and future health care issues that impact the designated portfolio. Demonstrated knowledge of structures and leadership roles to support patient-centred frameworks. Negotiates, facilitates, builds consensus, and effectively collaborates to build relationships that promote the achievement of cooperative goals and contribute to an atmosphere of mutual respect. Collaborates effectively with internal and external stakeholders to develop, manage, and evaluate programs/services considering client needs, service delivery interrelationships and service potential within a complex environment. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of legislative policy development and processes of various levels of government to ensure well-informed decision-making. Uses strong leadership, strategic thinking, problem solving and innovation abilities to develop effective strategies and ensure support and attainment of goals. Applies superior judgment and political expertise as well as strong communication skills to relay sensitive information and effectively persuade and negotiate with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrated leadership skills that promote a respectful, motivating, and empowering work environment, where individual competencies can thrive. Analyzes complex information from multiple sources and incorporates information into documents, plans and strategies. Uses sound business acumen to manage the fiscal resources of assigned programs/services in a manner that is financially responsible and consistent with the overall goals of the organization. Continuously seeks to develop and improve service delivery, standards, and practices. Uses knowledge of change theory and exemplifies leadership behaviour in all endeavours.
