ROLE

As a Clinical Nurse Scholar working in the Inpatient (Med/Surg) & Rehabilitation Services Department at Muskoka Algonquin Health Care you will;

General Responsibilities

  • Design, deliver, and evaluate educational programs, incorporate adult learning principles while providing feedback, coaching and mentoring .
  • Assess unit-level learning needs and support novice nurses to meet their learning goals .
  • Provide comprehensive education and evaluation to support to newly hired nurses during orientation .
  • Assess clinical and educational needs of nursing staff on an ongoing basis .
  • Participate in the delivery and creation of exceptional and innovative learning experiences that advance nursing practice .
  • Provide direct and indirect supervision and support of clinical practice for novice nurses .
  • Provide leadership in the delivery of evidence-based nursing care and facilitate the integration of research into meeting established patient care standards/guidelines/protocols .
  • Participate in evaluation of new nursing staff in conjunction with Manager .
  • Contribute to the evaluation of educational goals and objectives .
  • Foster positive staff interactions and promote a positive culture .
  • Integrated quality indicators, program priorities and MAHC values into frontline education .
  • Facilitate and support nurses through unit-based initiatives and changes .
  • Ensure that patient care complies with standards, legislation and regulations. Report non-compliance to program manager .
  • Provide support and act as expert role model and resource for the delivery of high-quality care .
  • Create and enable a culture of professional development, incorporating a novice to expert approach .
  • Support with patient care in emergent situations .
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the direct manager .
  • Organize and lead skills drills .
  • Assist in processes to identify, assess and engage stakeholders regarding nursing development needs.
  • Principle clinical resource point person when on shift for nursing staff to help ensure competency within scopes of practice and adoption of best practice.
  • Champion quality and patient safety for clinical practices.
  • Provide guidance to new nursing hires and preceptors.
  • Provide feedback to new nursing hires and nurse manager.

Clinical Assessment

  • As per request by Manager for RN and /or RPN assessment, usually as a result of identified concerns and/or practice issues.
  • Provide leadership regarding the creation and implementation of a learning plan.
  • Provide guidance and feedback to nurse and nurse manager .

REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S) 

  • Registered Nurse with current College of Nurses of Ontario registration, without restrictions .
  • Current HSFO BLS Provider .

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE(S)

  • Minimum 5 Years recent and relevant Clinical Experience in area where applying for role .
  • Advanced knowledge and expertise with central venous access devices required .
  • Knowledge and experience in clinical setting .
  • Organization and prioritization skills .
  • Superior leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal .
  • Excellent computer skills – working knowledge of Cerner and Microsoft Office Word &  Excel and Learning Management software.
  • Keen interest in the process of adult education .
  • Evidence of a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-directed, and to function in both leadership and collaborative roles.

DESIRED SKILLS , EXPERIENCE(S) & EDUCATION

  • CNA Specialty Certification .
  • Current ACLS Provider .
  • Certificate courses related to Adult Education .
  • Current RNAO membership preferred .

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Location: Huntsville District Memorial Hospital HDMH) located in Huntsville.

Department: Inpatient (Med/Surg ) & Rehabilitation Services

Responsibility Pay: The Clinical Nurse Scholar will receive a premium of two dollars ($2.00)  per hour, in addition to their regular salary and applicable premium allowance. This is considered Mentorship Premium for additional responsibilities. 

Hours of Work: This is currently a traditional (Days) line, however, this is subject to change. Must be available to work shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements per the collective agreement.

Conditions of employment for external hires includes;

  • Proof of immunization and vaccination records to the Hospital’s Occupational Health and Safety department. 
  • Legal entitlement to work in Canada.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record & Judicial Matters Check.
