POSITION SUMMARY Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Supervisor, Operations is responsible for overseeing the line operations, stores, and fleet department activities. The incumbent plays a critical role in ensuring the safe execution of Milton Hydro’s capital plan, new service connections, and maintenance activities. This role includes managing a skilled workforce of Linepersons and Apprentices and ensures that both planned and unplanned jobs are executed effectively. As a member of the Leadership Team (LT), the Supervisor, Operations actively supports a holistic approach to the organization by focusing on predicting and responding to customer needs, fostering an engaged employee culture, and continually improving through productivity, technology, and innovation. The Supervisor is also accountable for the safety and compliance of line crews, ensuring that all work adheres to established policies, regulations, and standards. In addition to operational responsibilities, the incumbent will oversee daily prioritization of work to support planned, reactive, and emergency work programs related to construction, maintenance, operations, and customer service tasks such as new connections and event resolutions. They will provide after-hours support for routine and emergency power restoration efforts, ensuring reliability and maintaining high levels of personal and team performance. The Supervisor will also manage time, quality, and financial performance to ensure safe, cost-effective, and efficient completion of work, while adhering to company policies, safe work practices, and regulatory standards. This position demands a focus on both operational excellence and continuous improvement in service delivery. KEY DUTIES Plan and schedule approved daily work, ensuring that crew assignments and work packages are appropriately allocated. Supervise multiple crews and assign work programs for the district, ensuring that operational goals are met. Participate in pre-construction activities for capital projects, providing guidance to engineering staff regarding work execution feasibility. Execute pre-job work activities, including locates, planned outage requests, and obtaining required permits. Conduct job site inspections and provide technical guidance to staff, ensuring safe and cost-effective execution of work. Complete daily reports, ensuring work is assigned, understood, and site visits are conducted to evaluate performance. Ensure employees and contractors follow corporate rules, safety regulations, and government policies. Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to plan and organize work, ensuring permits, equipment, and materials are available and aligned with project timelines. Support projects from conceptual design to execution, managing all construction activities to meet safety, cost, quality, and timeline targets. Manage staff to ensure that the Collective Agreement is administered fairly, fostering a positive union/management relationship. Schedule external resources as needed to complete outsourced activities. Provide regular project status reporting to ensure transparency and accountability. Oversee fleet maintenance activities to ensure preventive maintenance and repairs are conducted efficiently and cost-effectively. Ensure the adequate maintenance of inventory and proper control of material movement. Ensure that yard and stores area maintenance activities are completed in a timely and cost-effective manner. Provide leadership for Occupational Health & Safety activities, promoting a culture of safety, health, and loss prevention. Conduct safety visits, lead safety meetings, and participate in monthly incident investigations to resolve safety issues. Participate in evaluating new tools, processes, and equipment to improve safety and productivity. Ensure equipment installations meet all regulatory requirements, including ESA, Utility Standards, and Municipal consent. Perform system standby duties, including acting as site chief during major system failures. Participate in after-hours callouts for power restoration during emergency reactive events. Represent the company in meetings with external agencies such as IHSA, Mearie, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Labour, and local municipalities. Lead and execute proactive safety and environmental programs. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned or modified as the department evolves. SKILLS AND ABILITIES Thorough knowledge of electrical overhead, underground, network and underground residential distribution systems, operating practices standards, equipment, materials and engineering records systems. Familiar with reading electrical drawings, work protection codes, feeder/operating prints, overhead, underground work practices and standards. Familiar with various computer systems/applications including accident/incident investigation techniques, work management and general office automation tools. Knowledge of emergency management practices. Understands and utilizes the actions and behaviors necessary to create organizational change and unity. Displays professional ethics and possesses strong leadership skills and a sense of mission with a high priority for safety and results. Models a customer focused approach in all actions and decisions. Acts as a resource, mentor and coach in enabling individuals to reach their full potential; demonstrates strong leadership skills by empowering staff. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. KNOWLEDGE Knowledge of OHSA, Electrical Utility Safety Rules and relevant safety, electrical and environmental legislation and regulations.
