Reporting to the CFO of CTC and future FRFIs, the Corporate Controller is accountable for leading the controllership function for these federally regulated financial institutions (FRFIs). The Corporate Controller is a vital member of the broader CTC Finance Leadership Team and Questrade Financial Group (“QFG”), alongside the Head of FP&A and Capital Management; Director, Treasury; Managing Director, Capital Markets and Sr Mgr., Finance Projects at CTC.This role provides financial leadership, advisory and business support to the senior leaders in the FRFIs and the consumer lending businesses. The Corporate Controller works cross functionally within the FRFIs and QFG as the accounting and financial reporting leader as part of the broader enablement team supporting QFG and FRFI priorities.Leading a team of 25 (direct reports are Directors for the FRFI and Consumer Lending business and Sr Mgr. of Technical Accounting and Regulatory Reporting) and working under the direction of the CFO, the Corporate Controller ensures that financial results are accurately accounted for in an efficient and effective manner leveraging technology at every step. They bring a business orientation in assessing the people, processes and system needs of the controllership group to properly support the FRFIs and reporting to QFG. They work collaboratively with QFG finance to achieve enterprise objectives.This role holds full accountability to ensure the financial results of the FRFI and consumer lending business are materially accurate at all times. This includes driving controls across the FRFI and consumer lending legal entity and working productively with the QFG finance team to properly consolidate results.This role drives complex accounting, implementation of new IFRS, implementation of financial processes to support new products and technology and ultimate compliance with all the necessary rules and regulations that the FRFIs operate under.In this role, responsibilities include but are not limited to:Leadership:Developing a skilled and effective controllership function that is viewed as value-add by all stakeholders.Evaluating an existing controllership team to build a controllership team capable of managing a multi-product agile FRFI, with tight close timelines, leveraging technology and driving efficient and effective processes throughout the group.Providing leadership and coaching to the controllership team and to non-finance management throughout the organization regarding financial matters.Working closely with other finance leaders to provide financial information critical to the success of the FRFI and consumer lending business.Providing leadership to the team to ensure strong controls, and meaningful data capture to help inform business insights and meet the requirements of relevant regulators (e.g. OSFI).Process and Policies:Responsibility for the FRFIs and Consumer Lending entity being accurately accounted for.Ensure that all financial accounting and processes adhere to IFRS and the requirements of relevant regulations (e.g. OSFI).Ensuring FRFI meets its regulatory reporting obligations at all times and maintains appropriate controls to ensure regulatory compliance.Bringing best in class business processes to streamline, enable and support the growth of the company.Owning and managing the financial policies/procedures and accounting policies of the FRFIs, ensuring adherence to the Board approved Risk Appetite.Ensuring internal controls are both efficient and effective and ensuring FRFI and the relevant subsidiaries achieve clean audit opinions each fiscal period.Developing, maintaining, restructuring and enhancing internal controls and procedures to protect and safeguard the FRFI’s assets as it grows and scales in line with the Board approved Internal Control Policy.Preparing financial information for management, lenders, regulators and the Board of Directors.Managing the year-end audit process and relationship with external auditors, analyzing results of the audit and developing process improvements based on the results.Technology:Managing the financial systems of the FRFIs, ensuring maximum productivity to meet the needs of the business today and in the future.Ensuring effective utilization of finance related technologies available at QFG to ensure the technology is being leveraged by every member of the team in order to ensure scalability, efficiency and tight internal control.So are YOU our next Corporate Controller? You are if you…Hold a CPA / CA designation.Have 5+ years of finance leadership within an FRFI, or relevant experience.Have 10+ years in finance and accounting.Have expert knowledge of IFRS, and specifically IFRS 9.Have knowledge of the regulatory framework and reporting requirements of a FRFI.Have superior understanding of income statement, balance sheet and cash flows for deposit taking institutions.Have advanced knowledge of technology’s role in an organization’s financial performance and sustainability. Strong interest in the use of emerging financial technologies leveraged to gain a competitive advantage and manage costs.Demonstrate attention to detail while being able to step back to consider the impacts on the consolidated entity.Can successfully lead and execute projects within finance and cross functional projects.Are able to recognize issues and take initiative to work on finding an effective solution.Are able to apply critical thinking to business issues and drive results.Are able to work independently as well as in a team setting.Are able to lead the finance function to ensure business objectives and goals are met.Bring a positive, can-do attitude to our organization, using creative solutions to solve problems.Are a strong team player who motivates others to achieve group success and takes ownership of projects.Establish and build on healthy working relationships with your team and peers.Use open communication and collaboration to solve problems and manage deliverables.Work well in a dynamic and fast paced environment with the ability to navigate through organizational change, while demonstrating ability to handle stress in a patient and deliberate manner.Sounds like you?
