Job Summary
This is a hands-on role with some administrative duties and lots of variety. You will be a crucial team member maintaining our spectacular Heritage estate located on Bayview Avenue. In addition to the specific duties outlined below, this role is responsible for the overall performance of the facilities.
Building Maintenance:
Conducting the regular inspection of building interiors and exteriors (structural elements including: walls, floors, windows, roof, foundations, etc.); scheduling repairs as required
Identifying and prioritizing maintenance requirements
Effective management of external contractors and inspections (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, groundskeeping, exterminators, etc.); scheduling repairs as required
Ensure the effective operation, maintenance and storage of tools
Sourcing and managing upgrades and improvements of the facilities
Undertaking and completing minor building repairs; including but not limited to: dry wall repair/patching, carpentry, hardware replacement; painting; lightbulb, switch and receptacle face plate replacement; hanging pictures; and plumbing
Effective cost control, ensuring appropriate discounts are obtained
Facilities Administration:
Sourcing and purchasing maintenance tools, materials and gardening supplies
Coordinating facilities service contracts, including snow removal, lawn care, pest control, waste disposal and janitorial services, etc.; ensuring quality service is delivered
Obtaining quotes for service contracts and rates are negotiated
Maintaining good relationships with key suppliers
Backup for key fob issuance
First person on call for security and building emergencies
Grounds:
Ensuring hazardous conditions are identified and corrected
Assisting with snow and ice removal from walkways/entrances and the application of ice melt
Ensuring grounds are clean and litter-free
Health and Safety:
Member of the Health & Safety Committee, look for and communicate health and safety concerns to the Director of Finance & Facilities
Ensuring compliance with fire and health & safety codes
Ensuring dangerous materials are identified and properly stored or disposed of.
Scheduling annual fire alarm system inspections, including fire hydrant, and ensuring recommendations are followed
Updating the Fire Safety Plan as required and submitting it for approval as needed
Conducting monthly fire extinguisher and workplace health and safety inspections and ensuring deficiencies are reported and corrected
Obtaining and maintaining your Health and Safety certification
Other:
Working with the Creative Impact team to support internal/external logistics for events and location rentals
Working with the Operations and Programs staff to support office and meeting room setups
Maintaining good relationships with CFC staff and responding to requests and inquiries promptly and courteously (within 24 hours)
Providing backup for the Maintenance Assistant during absences
Actively participating in department and staff meetings
Special projects and other duties commensurate with the responsibilities and duties outlined above
Qualifications/Requirements
2 – 3 years of experience in building and preventative facilities maintenance
Knowledge of building mechanical/electrical equipment, building automation, HVAC, electrical or plumbing systems
Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ministry of Environmental Regulations, Ontario Building Code and Ontario Fire Code
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience with hand tools and power tools
Ability to lift and move up to 50lbs
