ROLE OVERVIEWThe individual appointed to this position will report directly to the Construction Director, Shafts and Underground. The Shaft Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing all shaft sinking and underground development operations during the construction phase of the Rook I project. This includes planning, organizing, and directing the sinking of the main production and ventilation shafts as well as developing the initial underground levels and infrastructure. The role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to coordinate with various stakeholders to ensure the successful completion of the shaft sinking project. We are looking for a highly motivated self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit who is comfortable being on a small team while working in a growth-oriented environment. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to)Plan and oversee the sinking of the main shafts adhering to engineering designs, safety protocols, and applicable regulations while interacting with the shaft sinking contractor.Manage the shaft sinking crews, contractors, and all personnel involved in underground development.Oversee shaft sinking planning, engineering, and procurement activities, including review of shaft sinking methodology, procedures, design, and team hiring. Ensure the implementation by the Shaft Sinking Contractor includes all the latest best practices in the industry.Supervise the installation of shaft infrastructure, permanent & temporary hoist room construction and commissioning.Coordinate multiple contractors for underground development such as driving accessways, installing ground support systems, establishing ventilation, and building initial underground infrastructure in partnership with the Engineering department.Drive leadership on-site by fostering a culture of safety through proactive communication, training, and continuous improvement initiatives. Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and best practices, and lead by example to promote a zero-incident safety culture.Implement safety plans and protocols specific to shaft sinking operations.Liaise with surface construction teams to coordinate integration of shafts and underground workings with surface facilities.Recruit, train, and lead an effective shaft sinking and underground development team.Oversee the construction activities, ensuring compliance with design specifications and safety standards.Provide support to other Project Development teams.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE15+ years of related technical and/or field experience in shaft sinking and U/G Construction (Mechanical, Infrastructures, etc.)Candidates with mechanical, mining, and project management experience in areas of shaft sinking, shaft operations, surface construction, QAQC, and leadership of crews, would be viewed favourably. Proven management skills, including experience in managing varied and multi-disciplinary scoped of work.Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work in a challenging environment.LOCATIONThis position will be based initially at the Saskatoon office (M-F, 40 hrs/week), eventually transitioning to a two week in/two week out schedule when ready for site mobilization.
