Intermediate Terrestrial Ecologist Start:ASAP Overview: Palmer is seeking to hire an Intermediate Terrestrial Ecologist located in Barrie/Muskoka area. We are seeking a qualified candidate to join our growing team of professionals that include terrestrial and aquatic ecologists, geomorphologists, hydrogeologists, and geotechnical engineers to work in a dynamic and collaborative work environment on multi-disciplinary projects. Responsibilities: Completing project background reviews, field investigations, data compilation and analysis and report writing. Collecting field data and observations in an accurate and well-organized manner. Completing tree inventory and protection plans, edge management plans and contributing to restoration plans. Reviewing and summarizing environmental policies and legislation such as municipal official plans and the Endangered Species Act. Working collaboratively with the project team, with some understanding of integrating study disciplines. Assisting with agency consultations. Assisting with environmental permitting and approval processes. Managing project budgets, scheduling and deliverables. Communicating effectively with clients and project team members. Skills/Qualifications: Education Requirements: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental science/management, biology, ecology or geography. 5+ years of experience in the areas of ecology, biology, plant science, or other related environmental discipline. Ecological Land Classification and/or Ontario Wetland Evaluation System certification or demonstrated experience. ISA Certified Arborist and GIS skills are an asset. Experience with wildlife surveys for herpetofauna, birds, and/or mammals. Excellent communication skills and experience working with multi-disciplinary teams to solve problems in a timely manner. Ability to work independently without supervision and manage own schedule. Access to a personal vehicle and a valid Class G driver’s license with a clean driving record. Work Location: This position will be primarily working from home with the flexibility to work from other Palmer offices if desired. This position will primarily support Palmer’s projects located north of the GTA. However, the Ecologist will occasionally work in the field at various projects sites throughout the Grey County, Bruce County, Huron County, Simcoe County, the GTA, Peel Region, York Region, Muskoka-Parry Sound Region, and potential opportunities in western Canada.
