Summary The Meridian Centre and Canada Games Park are both proudly managed by ASM Global, the world’s largest and most trusted venue management and services company, operating the most prestigious entertainment, sports, and exhibition venues in the world. ASM Global at Meridian Centre and Canada Games Park has an immediate opening for a Director of Operations, who will be responsible for the activities required to run, maintain, and service the facilities and/or the events by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. The Meridian Centre is a 5,300 seat arena in downtown St. Catharines. The arena is home to the Niagara IceDogs of the Ontario Hockey League and the Niagara River Lions of the Canadian Elite Basketball League. Other events hosted at this venue include Cirque Du Soleil, along with various comedians, concerts & family shows. Canada Games Park is a 200,000 square feet venue that was the main facility for the 2022 Canada Summer Games. Featuring two NHL-sized twin ice-pads, a 200-meter indoor track, six competition beach volleyball courts, a multipurpose field house and 400-meter outdoor track, a sports performance centre, parasport compatible gymnasium, health and wellness centre in addition to office spaces, the venue is packed with action and excitement. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Directs, supervises and schedules all aspects of Operations, including Engineering; Building and Grounds; Technical Services; Event Services, including AODA compliance; Public Safety; Security; Custodial Services and Parking Departments at both Meridian Centre and Canada Games Park. Manage two direct reports (Manager of Meridian Centre and Manager of Canada Games Park who oversee a total full-time staff of 16). Coordinates the Operations activities with other departments and event related contractors to assure facility readiness and smooth operation of events. Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to develop strategic plan and annual budgets. Implements and updates facility rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Provides clear, concise, and timely communication of directives to other departments. Ensures that Operations Departments receives pertinent information for the most effective use of the facility and staffing. Oversees maintenance of the physical plant, systems, HVAC, facility equipment and vehicles. Assists in the preparation of the Annual Operating Budget and recommends a capital budget for 1-year and 5-year long-range repairs and improvements to the facility. Authorizes the requisition of equipment and supplies within budget guidelines. Provides yearly inventory of all equipment. Knows and ensures all laws, codes, ordinances, policies, procedures, Risk Management, safety precautions, rules/regulations and emergency procedures are followed. Develops program to train all employees on Fire/Life Safety, Emergency and OSHA Procedures. Investigates, analyzes and resolves operational problems and complaints. Conducts periodic staff meetings to discuss procedures, problems and policy changes. Works closely with the General Manager in the preparation and negotiation of Service Agreements. Reviews contracts for compliance with events and /or government specifications and suitability for occupancy. Negotiates with vendors, contractors and/or service providers. Develops and implements preventive maintenance schedules, emergency procedures, safety and Risk Management policies in compliance with all Corporate and governmental regulations. Acts as liaison to public utility, environmental, and energy agencies. Assist GM in implementation of any energy saving guidelines. Coordinates and oversees special projects, such as construction, remodeling or expansion. Plans and directs outside vendors/contractors work to assure compliance with contracts and safety requirements. Serves as MOD (Manager on Duty) as required. Other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities Manages subordinate managers/supervisors at both Meridian Centre and Canada Games Park venues in any of the following departments: Maintenance, Operations, Production, Public Safety, Security and/or Parking Departments. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with ASM Global’s policies and local applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding; disciplining employees in conjunction with Human Resources; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Post-secondary education in a relevant professional discipline or an equivalent combination of education and / or progressive experience in the field (Management, Facilities, Technology or relevant skilled trades and/or equivalent). Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Supervising or Managing in a similar facilities (Additional experience may be substituted for education). Proven experience in similar facilities, producing a high volume of repairs and renovations while facilities are occupied, experience with trades, building automation systems and controls are preferred. Knowledge of legislation, regulations and building codes related to building operations i.e. Building and Fire Codes, in depth Occupational Health & Safety Act, is an asset. Experience managing budgets and financial resources effectively. Proven leadership skills, visibly and positively representing ASM Global to external stakeholders. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external partners. Management experience required. Skills and Abilities Excellent organization skills. Ability to prioritize and to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Good written, verbal and interpersonal skills required; ability to interact with all levels of staff including management. Ability to effectively supervise staff. Professional presentation, appearance and work ethic. Requires ability to work flexible and extended hours, including nights, weekends and holidays, in addition to normal business hours. Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel and also Asset Management software. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations TSSA Refrigeration Operator class B certificate an asset. Certified Ice Technician considered an asset. Other Qualifications Ability to work with limited supervision and as a team member. Requires ability to work flexible and extended hours, including nights, weekends and holidays, in addition to normal business hours.
