Director, Campus Planning, Design and DevelopmentPermanent, full-time position – Guelph, ONReporting to the Associate Vice-President, Physical Resources, and serving as a senior leader within the Physical Resources unit, the Director, Campus Planning, Design, and Development, is responsible to deliver on the Physical Resources stewardship mandate through the delivery of short- to longer-term planning, design, and development of the physical infrastructure on the University campus, including site infrastructure and facilities. The breadth and scope of this position is extensive.Your key responsibilities will include:Lead the Campus Planning, Design, and Development unit, an interdisciplinary team of up to 30 employees, consisting primarily of licensed professionals, including architects, engineers, and accountants, architectural and engineering technologists and technicians and other support staff and up to 30 external consultants and contractors.Provide operational oversight and management of a $3-million-plus annual operating expense budget and $70-million-plus annual capital expense budget.Establish and advance a strategic, holistic approach to integrating planning for site and campus development and operations.Development of administrative systems, including policy, procedures, and processes, as appropriate and necessary, as well as for providing senior University leadership with strategic planning support and guidance.Provide strategic leadership to advance the University’s sustainability and Physical Resources’ stewardship strategies that are materially consistent with the University Campus Master Plan and are compliant with relevant Board of Governors.QUALIFICATIONSTo be considered for the role of Director, Campus Planning, Design and Development, you must be an insightful, problem-solving leader who has a successful track record in a facilities department within a major public institution, and whose profile includes:10-15 years’ experience working at a senior management level in a heavily unionized facilities department within a major public institutional setting, preferably at a post-secondary educational institution.P.ENG or OAA designation is mandatory.Undergraduate Degree in Architecture or Engineering combined with relevant professional experience is required. An MBA would be considered an asset for this role.Experience working with a University’s senior level administrators and provincial and/or municipal authorities.Proven leadership ability, and highly developed problem-solving and conflict resolution on a wide variety of issues.Excellent interpersonal and networking skills, and the ability to build relationships with key people on campus.Ability to analyze complex problems, and use sound judgement in making significant decisions.WHAT WOULD GIVE YOU THE EDGE?Ability to anticipate changes required in the organization, and either make them or provide recommendation for action to AVP and Directors.Proven capability to create an environment that promotes and encourages change and innovation.Anticipatory thinking and Strategic Planning: not only thinks beyond the next year for the organization but rather thinks about the next 5-10, strategically balancing multiple priorities and departmental objectives when developing options, setting direction, and reaching conclusions.Anticipatory and strategic thinking in deciding on the best course of action, foreseeing likely outcomes and taking into consideration the political ramifications of the outcomes, especially in terms of campus climate and project management.If you are a current employee of the University of Guelph you must apply on the internal Career Page in order to be considered as an internal applicant.At the University of Guelph, fostering a culture of inclusion is an institutional imperative.
