Principal Quantum Engineer – Qubit Development Department: Quantum Processors Employment Type: Full Time Location: British Columbia, Canada Compensation: The base annual salary range for this full-time role is between $188,000 to $296,000. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target range for new hire base salary across all Canadian locations. Actual compensation may vary outside of this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to a candidate's qualifications including relevant education and training, competencies, experience, geographic location, and business needs. Base pay is only one part of the total compensation package. Full time roles are eligible for equity and benefits. Base pay is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Description As a Principal Quantum Engineer – Qubit Development at Photonic, you are a leader on the silicon qubit development team where you will play a crucial role in enhancing the performance of qubit architectures. Leveraging your deep technical skills in quantum science or physics, curiosity, and synthetic thinking, you will make technical decisions quickly while keeping a view of the broader context to accelerate learning and derisking. In this position, you will collaborate closely with high-performing teams of product engineers and scientists, with expertise spanning from device physics to classical computer architecture and compilers. You thrive on the excitement of mastering new technology and new science, while bringing your significant hands-on expertise, open mind, and creativity to tackle key challenges as we build the world’s first truly scalable quantum computing system. WHAT WE NEED YOU TO DO Design and execute rapid technical derisking projects for Photonic’s T centre qubits in the context of complex, multivariate problems to iterate quickly towards solutions Lead the feedback loop with the Photonic nanofabrication, materials development, and modelling teams to accelerate progress Collect high quality data efficiently Create multiple layers of backup plans for execution and alternative paths to success Train, guide, and develop current and new team members Track and document project progress and outcomes, and communicate across the organization Contribute to patents and peer-reviewed articles reporting advances where applicable WHAT YOU BRING TO OUR TEAM Masters or PhD in Experimental Quantum Information, Physics, Engineering, or related field 10+ years of postdoc, professorial, and/or industry experience in physics, quantum computing and/or quantum engineering Deep familiarity with one or more quantum computing platforms (e.g. ion traps, neutral atoms, defect centres, solid-state spins, superconducting qubits) Experience driving multi-qubit systems at high fidelity Ability to be flexible and adapt to new situations in rapidly changing research environment Demonstrated ability to creatively solve engineering problems Outstanding teamwork skills Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills Ability to relocate and work on site within the greater Vancouver, BC, Canada area (work permit support can be provided) WHY YOU SHOULD WORK WITH US Get involved with a quantum startup company set to redefine computing Work closely with some of the brightest innovators in quantum technologies Enjoy a fast-paced and fun environment where you can try new things while solving innovative challenges every day Inclusive company culture Competitive salary, benefits (including life insurance, extended health, dental, long term disability, and a flexible spending account), and potential upside The description above is what we think an ideal candidate would look like for this role.
