Executive Director, Vancouver Island Soccer League (VISL) Victoria Executive Director, VISL Since 1895, the VISL has provided an opportunity for organized, structured soccer for all adult men. Categories include Competitive, Recreational, Masters and U21. Located on Vancouver Island, VISL seeks an Executive Director to lead the organization of 70 + teams and over 2000 players. This role plays a critical part in driving growth, managing stakeholder communication, fostering current sponsorships and securing new sponsors for the league. The Executive Director will be responsible for managing all aspects of the league, including registration, scheduling, stakeholder engagement, communications and strategic growth. This role has a significant impact on the members and the general success of the league. This position reports to the VISL Board. About You The ideal candidate brings a love of sport and the ability to manage volunteers, the board of directors, game officials and team officials. You are a strategic, growth-driven thinker with a passion for innovation and you possess an entrepreneurial mindset. You excel at communication and community involvement, with a strong focus on enhancing the image of the VISL; while securing sponsorships that will ensure the longevity and financial wellbeing of the league. With a hands-on approach, you are adept at driving registration, maintaining the existing clubs within the league and adding teams to the top amateur sports league on Vancouver Island. You are a self-starter who is motivated to further the reputation of the league through positive interactions with the media, stakeholders, the board of directors, members and sponsors. Responsibilities General: Oversee all administrative aspects of the league Report to the VISL Board of Directors on a monthly basis Maintain regular one-on-one meetings with the League President Communication with all stakeholders Work in tandem with the Referee Manager regarding match officials Sponsor Development and Retention: Maintain relationships with existing sponsors. Renew sponsorships on an annual basis Drive additional sponsorships with companies that align with the values of the VISL Think creatively as to how sponsors can work with the league through both in-kind and cash sponsorships Strategic Planning & Expansion: Create a three-to-five-year plan for league growth and maintenance Look for opportunities to enhance the reputation of the VISL Member Management: Positively handle all communications with members Proactively reach out to teams and club officials with information that will enhance their experience as members of VISL Set and maintain a calendar of events for the league that include: AGM Semi-Annual AGM Monthly Board Meetings All Star Games Cup Draws Cup Finals Liaising with BC Soccer Desired Qualities, Expertise and Experience Extensive executive leadership with the ability to handle all types of stakeholders Strategic Planning: ensuring the league is set up for future years Strong communication skills: that are positive and of benefit to the league’s members Strong organizational skills: with an ability to think outside the box—resolving issues quickly and proactively seeking solutions Cross-functional Collaboration: Strong communication and collaboration skills with a history of working alongside the board, the members and sponsors to create integrated experiences that promote the league Entrepreneurial Mindset: Experience identifying and capitalizing on new business opportunities. A creative problem-solver who thrives in dynamic, high-growth environments Financial and Operational Acumen: Deep understanding of financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and revenue analysis. Experience in implementing financial controls to ensure viability while maintaining high member satisfaction Self-Starter: This is a position unto itself with no “staff” to manage. There is no “office” to attend. VISL currently has one other contracted employee; the Referee Manager. Otherwise, it’s a volunteer-board and volunteer team officials Innovation & Creativity: An out-of-the-box thinker with a passion for innovation in running an amateur league Educated in sports management, business, marketing, or a related field Location This position is located on Vancouver island and requires a consistent presence at monthly board meetings, regular meetings with the league president, AGM, Cup Draws etc. Living in or around the area is necessary. Compensation and Benefits The compensation range for this position includes a base salary along with the potential for bonuses based on performance metrics. This range is designed to be competitive within the industry and accommodates talent with varied levels of experience and qualifications.
