Focused on providing medicine with meaning, advancing knowledge and technology and educating tomorrow’s health care professionals, it is our collaborative strengths that will lead us into the future.The successful candidate will be eligible for an appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor (or higher depending on current academic rank) in the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, Max Rady College of Medicine at the University of Manitoba.BRIEF POSITION DESCRIPTION:The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences is seeking a part-time (0.5 FTE) Obstetrician/Gynecologist who will provide clinical care and academic support relevant to early pregnancy assessment, contraception in complex situations, and family planning including medical and surgical termination.Responsibilities:Early Pregnancy Assessment (0.1 FTE, 4h per week, Shared Health: Fee For Service):The successful candidate will teach medical learners and provide care including transabdominal and endovaginal ultrasound for stable outpatients presenting with bleeding in pregnancy under 14 weeks.Contraception, Family Planning and Abortion Provision (0.15 FTE, 6h per week, Shared Health: Fee For Service):The successful candidate will provide first and second trimester abortion care with preoperative assessment and contraception provision as requested.Clinical teaching to trainees on rotation is expected.Ryan Program Director (0.05 FTE, 2h per week, University of Manitoba stipend):The successful candidate will update the Ryan program every 2 years, attend Ryan program educational sessions at Society of Family Planning annual meeting, meet with residents and coordinate rotation.The successful candidate will oversee the running and updating of the PGY2 4-week Ryan Program for residents in obstetrics-gynecology, please see administrative position description.Research Coordination (0.15 FTE, 6h per week, University of Manitoba stipend):The successful candidate will support research related to the Early Pregnancy Assessment Clinic and the Family Planning program. Specific priority is placed on coordination of the Manitoba site within national studies and clinical trials.Initiate, design, and conduct research studies relevant to early pregnancy assessment, contraception, family planning, and related areas.Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop innovative research projects and secure funding from various sources.Disseminate research outcomes to both academic and clinical communities to influence practice and policy.Provide mentorship and supervision to medical students, residents, and other trainees in research methodologies and projects.Promote the translation of research findings into clinical practice to improve patient care and outcomes.Qualifications:• Current or eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba specialist registry as a generalist Obstetrician Gynecologist• Canadian citizenship or permanent residency or eligibility for permanent residency• Eligibility for hospital privileges within Shared Health• Eligibility for a University of Manitoba teaching appointmentEXPERIENCE:• Fellowship in Family Planning and Contraception (Preferred)• Advanced training (e.g. MSc or PhD) in epidemiology, research methodology or program of study to prepare candidates to conduct high quality medical research (Preferred)• Advanced training in early ultrasound for diagnosis of early pregnancy abnormalities (required)• Advanced training in first and second trimester (to at least 19 +6 weeks of pregnancy) procedural abortion (required)• Experience in difficult Nexplanon removal (preferred)SKILLS & ABILITIES:• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills appropriate to dealing with individuals from a variety of backgrounds• Interest in medical education administrationCompensation:Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.Specialty Physicians may be eligible for a recruitment incentive.
