Application Deadline: Monday, October 14 (we will review applications on a rolling-basis)Duration: 8 monthsPositions Available: 1Start Date: Monday, January 6, 2025The Geochemistry Database Co-op will be part of the Orebody Knowledge (OBK) team. The OBK team is a diverse group of multi-disciplinary Subject Matter Experts that apply the fundamental principles of geochemistry to better understand Teck’s orebodies. The primary responsibility of the successful candidate will be to assess geochemical data and apply accepted Quality Controls (QC), thus helping ensure that these foundational datasets are fit for use.This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop your skills in data analysis and data compilation while gaining valuable insights into validated industry methodologies. The ideal candidate is keen to deepen their understanding of the application of geochemistry and quality control principles.Depending on the needs and location of the team, you will need to work PDT or MDT or relocate to a specific office (site-based). You must also currently be a student enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution and will be enrolled throughout the duration of the co-op term. Proof of a valid work permit will also be required, if applicable.Why consider Teck Resources Limited for your Co-op Placement?At Teck, we offer a comprehensive student experience comprised of relevant, hands-on work, vibrant social activities, extensive networking opportunities, and rich professional development.In addition to excellent compensation, Teck co-ops receive a variety of advantages including:Financial assistance to help with travel costs and co-op feesOpportunity to develop technical skills and gain practical experience while applying academic knowledge to real-world mining operations and projectsEnjoy mentorship and guidance from experienced specialists in their respective fieldsReceive primary consideration for professional positions upon graduationSalary Range: $4600 - $5800 / MonthSalary is commensurate with the number of academic semesters and prior co-op experiences completed.ResponsibilitiesBe a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.Support the application of robust Quality Control principles on analytical data generated and reported by 3rd parties and internally, helping ensure the geochemical data meets Teck’s requirements and is fit for purpose.Use statistical techniques to measure accuracy and precision of analytical results and communicate findings to project collaborators.Assist with helping streamline and standardize Teck's geochemical databases across all sites and operations.Engage with and support projects across Teck, helping support their geochemical/analytical needs.Create and assess new ideas and technologies to improve our business operations.QualificationsCurrently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Geology, Chemistry or related fields.Able to build and nurture positive working relationships with individuals of a diverse set of backgrounds.Familiarity with common statistical techniques for evaluating analytical data for accuracy and precision (standard deviation, mean, median, etc.).Previous experience applying QC controls to analytical data or in a production environment is helpful.Familiarity with data management such as acQuire relational databases, Access, Datashed, etc. are considered an asset.Strong attention to detail and adept at identifying patterns/anomalies in datasets.Curiosity about geochemistry, analytical chemistry and/or data science.Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, R, etc.) and common office efficiency tools (Excel, Word, Outlook) is highly valued.Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the capability to communicate complex ideas to all levels and partners.Proven ability to learn new technologies and platforms quickly, accurately, and efficiently.Experience in geochemical laboratories and some knowledge of common analytical techniques such as AAS, ICP-AES, ICP-MS, pXRF, XRF would be considered an asset.About TeckTeck Resources Ltd. is Canada’s largest diversified resource company committed to responsible mining and mineral development with business units focused on steelmaking coal, copper, zinc, and energy.
