Job Background & Summary:Working Model: Willing to consider a Remote working model for up to 1 year, should the successful candidate reside outside of Metro Vancouver, BC.We at Actalent Services are a fast-growing engineering consulting group which expanded to Canada in 2014. A significant part of that growth has come out of our Western Canadian Operations with a focus on electrical utility infrastructure.We have a full-time opening for a Sr. Electrical Engineer (Stations) to join our Stations Team. We are looking for people that are career-driven, well-organized, and detail-oriented with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Key activities include directing the work of designers, completing project designs, supporting our professional engineers, liaising with project stakeholders, and performing quality assurance functions. The selected individual will be supported by a multidisciplinary team.This position is office-based currently operating on a hybrid schedule of three days in the office and two days at home.Successfully passing Drug & Alcohol Screening is a requirement for this role.Qualifications and Experience:Electrical Engineering or Power Systems degree from a Canadian accredited university or equivalent.Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with a Canadian Engineering Association, or eligible to within 12 months.A minimum of eight (8) years of combined experience in utilities/infrastructure electrical design.A minimum of two (2) years in substation physical (combination of experience, including protection and control design will be considered).Aptitude and career interest in technical leadership.Familiarity with utility and national standards.Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License.Strong oral and written communication skills.Proficient using MS Office.Any of the below experience will be considered an asset for the role:Electrical engineering/design experience on BC Hydro and/or industrial projects.Job Responsibilities:Key contributor to utility substation upgrades and expansions up to 500kV.Prepare and direct others to prepare designs for substation physical, protection and control infrastructure according to client and national standards and requirements.Prepare project documentation and deliverables in accordance with client’s project and Engineering Design Practices (i.e. evaluation reports, specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis, calculations, hazard logs, test plans).Checking and reviewing work of peers and mentoring junior team members.Prepare signed/sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record (PoR) in accordance with EGBC and client’s Design Practices.Manage workload to meet project schedules.Define design scope and resolve design issues in a manner that is consistent with design objectives.Coordinating with clients, co-workers, subcontractors, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders.Attend project meetings, conduct site inspections, and complete field reviews; approximately 10% of the time will be out of the office.Provide technical and administrative support through all phases of a project.Prepare project estimates and schedules.Independently analyze and resolve a variety of challenging and unusual engineering problems.Participate in short-and long-range planning for station electrical/P&C personnel requirements and pursuit of client’s projects.Ability to use standard industry analysis software or hand/excel calculations to effectively perform the duties.Travel to various sites around the province (BC) to perform engineering duties.Conduct design review of work completed by internal and external consultants to ensure design standards and specifications are met.Provide technical assistance and construction support in the field, as well as undertake field reviews as required by EGBC.
