Gain a broad range of clinical experiences working with adults (over 800 cases/yr.) mainly in the OR and Critical Care areas but also Cardiac, Emergency, and Women’s Health departments.
Work closely with cardiac surgeons, anesthetists, cardiologists, and personnel from the cath lab and intensive care departments.
Operate state-of-the-art equipment and perform Outpatient VAD assessment (Heartmate 3).
Support, mentor, and supervise perfusionist students.
Contribute to and participate in various research opportunities.
The successful candidate for this role will benefit from a Monday through Friday schedule, 15 days of vacation after the first year, and a comprehensive health, dental, and pension benefits package, and ongoing support for education. Position Overview Under the general direction of the Manager of Respiratory Therapy and Perfusion, and clinically on a daily basis the Operating Surgeon and Anaesthetist, and while demonstrating a commitment to the Mission, Values, and Management Philosophy of St. Boniface Hospital, the STAFF PERFUSIONIST, is responsible for setting up, operating and dismantling heart-lung machine and related equipment; providing instruction for Perfusionist Students, and general orientation for other health care professionals in regard to the basics of Cardiac Surgery requiring the use of CPB and/or other relevant equipment; and performing other related duties as assigned.
Experience Previous perfusion experience an asset.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate) Graduate of an Accredited Cardiovascular Perfusion Program.
Certified by the Canadian Society of Clinical Perfusion or Certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.
Qualifications and Skills Ability to interact well with health care professionals at all levels.
Good interpersonal communication skills.
Adapts readily to various types of clinical situations.
Demonstrated ability to work under pressure.
Demonstrated ability to deal with technical problems that may arise.
Mature, professional manner.
