Qualifications
Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
Comprehensive knowledge of evidence based clinical practices
Comprehensive knowledge of long-term care concepts and philosophies
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Previous managerial experience in a long-term care setting an asset
Contributes to policy and program development
Demonstrates leadership and organizational skills
Good computer skills
Demonstrated commitment to learning and continuous improvement
Must have a clear vulnerable sector screen no older than 6 months, TB results less than 6 months, evidence of flu shot, and must be able to provide three work references

Essential Duties are the technical skills and knowledge that an employee requires to perform their role. Below is detailed information on the required Essential Duties for your position.
Provides direction to the nursing team in all aspects of resident care and takes on the role of “In Charge” in the absence of DOC – Administrative and/or Executive Director.
Interprets nursing philosophy, and in collaboration with the Director of Care and nursing team establishes and implements goals and objectives.
Addresses resident/family concerns and follow up necessary to resolve issue(s)
Provides leadership and support to staff.
Supervises and monitors registered staff and PSW performance.
Maintains an active presence in resident home areas including mentoring/coaching of staff on the provision high quality resident care.
Assists with the recruitment, retention and termination of nursing employees
Participates in performance management system for nursing employees
Adheres to human resources policies when recruiting and hiring new employees
Adheres to the collective agreement when implementing human resources policies
Has a good understanding of staffing patterns, and scheduling activities
Counsels staff in areas of non-compliance, and inappropriate and unprofessional behaviour. Utilizes the progressive disciplinary process when disciplining employees.
Demonstrates sound knowledge of the resident bill of rights and monitors residents care to ensure staffs respects residents’ rights. • Monitors supply budgets to ensure that these are being effectively managed.
Holds registered staff and PSW meetings on a regular basis to introduce new programs, quality improvement initiatives, and changes in practices and policies.
Required to understand the nature and meaning of quality indicators used by the Home and to understand which indicators are publicly reported.
Assists with the submission and amendments of critical incidents and follow through corrective actions.
Monitors supply budgets to ensure that these are being effectively managed.
Required to participate in the improvement of the indicators and achieve satisfactory results.
Sits on Committees and co-chairs/chairs clinical programs. Assists with collecting stats, collating data, identification and analysis of trends, education and recommending changes to practices.
