We are seeking a skilled Industrial Automation Programmer to join our team and help us drive advancements in industrial automation technology.
Position Summary:
As an Industrial Automation Programmer, you will be responsible for programming and commissioning industrial automation systems, including PLC and HMI systems, for a range of applications. You will report directly to the Automation Team Leader and work directly with the Industrial Project Manager. In addition, you will collaborate with engineering teams to design, test, and implement automation systems that deliver quality and reliability to our clients.
Duties and key responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Automation:
Develop, program, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI systems for industrial applications including boiler and process heating solutions.
Design and implement SCADA systems to monitor and control processes.
Collaborate with engineering and technical specialist for end user solutions.
Perform testing, validation, and optimization of automated systems to ensure functionality and performance.
Maintain and update existing automation software and hardware systems.
Document programming and configuration changes, as well as create user manuals and training materials.
Perform field commissioning and service as required for jobs/customers in various regions.
Provide technical support and training to operators and maintenance personnel.
Provide technical support for field service technicians.
Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in automation technology.
Integration using various communication protocols
Systems Diagnostics and Applications:
Develop an understanding of the process and technologies involved in building boiler plants and processing heating systems and apply knowledge when performing system diagnosis, start up and commissioning, as well as developing solutions to remedy or improve the process
Communication and Teamwork:
Communicate effectively with customers and team members about current projects and any recommendations for repairs or improvements
Collaborate with other contractors and consultants effectively to ensure issues get resolved in a timely manner
Ensure consistent follow up with customers on projects or service-related activities
Ethics and Values:
Uphold the company's values and code of ethics in all interactions and projects.
Qualifications & Experience:
Successful completion of Engineering Technology Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
Proven experience in industrial automation programming (3+ years preferred).
Proficiency in programming languages such as Function Block, Ladder Logic, and Structured Text.
Experience with PLC brands such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Honeywell, or Mitsubishi.
Familiarity with process control systems and or SCADA systems and HMI software (e.g., Factory Talk View SE, Wonderware, Ignition, Factory Talk Historian SE, Niagara).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Knowledge of safety standards and regulations in industrial environments.
Willing and able to work overtime or irregular hours with minimal notice as required based on operational needs
Willing and able to travel to other parts of Canada as required
Preferred Qualifications:
Certifications in industrial automation or related fields.
Experience with programming and integration.
Familiarity with IoT and Industry 4.0 concepts.
Working Conditions:
Up to 30% travel, locally and to different regions across Canada on as needed basis.
Frequent exposure to environmental conditions such as heat, cold, noise, and inclement weather.
Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 lbs, working at heights, and performing repetitive tasks.
May require RCMP and Public Works clearances, as well as drug and alcohol testing.
