PROFILE SUMMARY

Wesgroup is poised for substantial growth over the next several years and in preparation for this exciting and challenging phase, we are actively seeking a highly engaged, driven and experienced Sustainability & Carbon Specialist to join our team.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

The Sustainability & Carbon Specialist will play a key role in advancing Wesgroup’s Sustainability work. You will be part of a growing Sustainability initiative, working closely with our Property Management and Development teams to increase organizational knowledge and capacity, undertake strategic planning initiatives, and deliver on energy and emissions reduction projects. The position will report jointly to the Vice President, Sustainability and Senior Manager, Carbon & Energy.

The role is expected to evolve rapidly in a dynamic environment driven by both internal and external factors. Specific accountabilities include:

  • Project Co-Ordination : Identify, retain and manage consultants used across project phases from studies and analysis to project delivery (in partnership with Property Managers).
  • Data Tracking : Tracking energy and emissions data in support of Wesgroup’s established emissions reductions targets, and track progress against those targets.
  • Reporting : Report internally and externally on progress against emissions and energy targets as well as other compliance reporting requirements.
  • Subject Matter Expert : Be an in-house subject matter expert on energy efficiency and carbon reduction tools, techniques, approaches, and associated energy/carbon accounting.
  • Data Management : Process and manage energy and emissions data in support of Wesgroup’s established emissions reductions targets.
  • Behaviour Change : research and implement behaviour change approaches to carbon and energy reductions through policy drafting, education and engagement.
  • Adaptation & Resilience : provide support to the Senior Manager, Carbon and Energy, on establishing and managing the interaction of significant emissions reduction with building adaptation and resilience considerations.
  • Strategic planning : Support the Senior Manager Carbon and Energy with emissions reduction planning across the portfolio of properties.
  • Electric Vehicle Charging : Manage the growing integration of EV charging into building energy and carbon management.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

One of the following qualifications listed below. Significant professional experience will be considered in lieu of the qualifications listed below.

  • University designation in business, planning, sustainability or appropriate field (Graduate Degree is preferred)
  • Eligibility as Registered Professional Engineer or Planner
  • UBC Masters in Clean Energy
  • Other similar qualifications will be considered
  • 3+ years professional experiences related to energy and carbon management with direct project management experience.
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency and emissions reduction technologies applicable to commercial, retail, residential and industrial buildings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially in advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • Ability to manage your time effectively to meet competing demands and meet deadline; ability, and willingness, to adapt.
  • Able to resolve problems using facts and sound reasoning; able to achieve goals using a strategic approach; proven innovation with a willingness to manage and adapt to change. Resolve issues in a timely manner on daily responsibilities.
  • Ability to establish, foster and grow trusting relationships both internally and externally to achieve shared goals and work through challenges in a respectful manner.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to develop and sustain cooperative working relationships.

EXPECTED COMPENSATION

  • The expected salary range for this role is $75,000 - $85,000 per annum. Actual offered salary will depend on individual experience, qualifications, geographic location, market conditions for the role, and internal equity.
