Position Overview:

Join a progressive city-building team and play a vital role in important projects and development applications that deliver needed housing, transportation options and enhance the quality of life in Kitchener. The Transportation Planning Analyst plays a pivotal role in ensuring the City’s transportation network evolves as the City grows, in ways that are equitable and sustainable. Responsibilities:

  • Ensures the application of relevant transportation policies to developments and subdivisions, including the Official Plan, Complete Streets, Cycling and Trails Master Plan and Vision Zero.
  • Reviews, and provides comments and design options for development applications, including site plans, zone changes, plans of subdivision and secondary plans.
  • Reviews and provides comments on Committee of Adjustment applications.
  • Performs long term transportation network analysis and planning for future development.
  • Reviews and approves traffic impact studies. Assesses impact of trip generation for all modes of transportation on area streets and active transportation network
  • Determines requirements for land dedication for road widenings, closures, leases and encroachments.
  • Provides transportation-related subject matter expertise on major corporate Planning policies, such as the Official Plan, secondary plans, master plans, zoning bylaws, etc.
  • Acts as a representative for Transportations Services regarding interdepartmental project teams related to development review, as well as external regional and provincial agencies.
  • Provides pre-consultation and technical advisory services to land developers.
  • Develops technical policies for transportation development related issues.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Graduate of a three-year degree/diploma at a recognized post secondary institution in Transportation, Planning, Engineering or related field
  • Minimum of two years' experience in transportation planning or a related field.
  • A professional designation (CET, P.Eng, PMP, RPP) will be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of walking, cycling and transit-oriented development, complete streets, traffic impact analysis, and urban street design principles.
  • Ability to support and project values compatible with the organization.
  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in the use of computers utilizing Microsoft Office, BlueBeamReview and related traffic engineering software.
  • Access to reliable transportation for attendingoff-site meetings.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and an ability to deal with a wide variety of people.
  • Ability to participate as an effective team member.
  • Must be reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
