 Senior Manager, Privacy 

How does the role impact the organization?

Raymond James Ltd. is seeking a qualified Senior Manager, Privacy to work in our Toronto or Vancouver office.

Reporting to the Chief Privacy Officer (CPO), you will be responsible for collaborating with the CPO to manage all aspects of the Privacy Compliance Program. You will work within the firm’s Privacy Office, supporting evaluation of the firm’s data privacy risks, and supporting the development and implementation of solutions to minimize those risks and ensure compliance with the firm’s policies and procedures as well as with privacy regulatory requirements.

What is the position responsible for?

  • Stay abreast of national and global privacy developments, privacy enhancing technologies, and emerging technologies (e.g., automated decision systems) and privacy impacts;
  • Monitor regulatory changes, conduct impact assessments and lead as the compliance subject matter expert on projects and initiatives resulting from any changes, while collaborating with business, IT and other compliance functions;
  • Develop procedures, policies, FAQs and Compliance Bulletins resulting from regulatory changes;
  • Initiate, develop, maintain and revise processes for the general operations of the Privacy Office and its related activities;
  • Develop new and manage regular review of existing privacy policies and procedures and recommend and undertake improvements, where needed;
  • Collaborate with business units providing business advisory support and guidance that identify solutions to minimize privacy risks and communicate the firm’s position on privacy, while demonstrating privacy by design-thinking and balancing business enablement and compliance;
  • Update the firm’s internal Privacy Office website;
  • Lead third party privacy risk management activities (i.e., vendor diligence) by conducting privacy impact assessments
  • Carry out monitoring and testing activities and annual compliance risk assessments;
  • Support the development and documentation of program metrics;
  • Support the intake, investigation, remediation, notification and reporting of data privacy incidents and breaches;
  • Collaborate with the cyber security team on a variety of overlapping initiatives and responsibilities;
  • Develop privacy training materials and business unit specific training and manage employee compliance with required training;
  • Develop presentation materials for Board, executive committees and department meetings;
  • Support the CPO in audit, regulatory exams and responding to regulatory agencies, as applicable; and
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

What do we expect from you?

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

Knowledge of

  • Have a strong understanding of Canadian privacy laws and regulations;
  • Knowledge and understanding of global privacy laws is an asset; and
  • Possess compliance experience within the financial services industry.

Skill in

  • Have superior oral and written communication skills;
  • Have a well-developed and proven customer service and interpersonal skills;
  • Organization skills at an advanced level;
  • Problem solving and conducting analysis; and
  • Proficient with MS Office (focusing on Word, Powerpoint, Excel and Outlook);

Ability to

  • Proven ability to conduct privacy impact assessments, manage risks, and implement compliance frameworks;
  • Strong multi-tasker and have the ability to work under pressure;
  • Perform well independently with minimal supervision and within a team;
  • Analyze and understand the complexities of various compliance, operational, and business processes to ensure policies will have the intended effect and can be deployed with minimal disruption to work flows;
  • Establish and maintain effective and cooperative relationships amongst team members and throughout the firm;
  • Focus on providing effective solutions by keeping the clients’ best interests in mind; and
  • Detail-oriented.

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in the financial industry, at least 4 specifically in compliance;
  • Professional education in relevant field with graduate training preferred, e.g. JD/LLB, MBA, CFA, etc.
  • Experience in dealing with regulators; and
  • Experience in dealing with audits.

Licenses/Certifications

  • IAPP/C Certification (required);
  • IAPP/CM Certification (an asset);

Salary Range: BC (based on Education, Work Experience, etc) $110,000-120,000 in addition to competitive performance bonuses/incentives.
