Overview

ClearBlue is looking for an experienced Carbon Market Analyst to join our Market Analysis team, with a focus on the Canadian carbon markets. The primary responsibility is to act as the internal and external expert on the Canadian carbon markets, encompassing a comprehensive understanding of climate policy developments on both the provincial and federal levels, understanding market trends and drivers, and other developments within the Canadian carbon market. The role involves translating this expertise into actionable insights and accurate forecasts, ensuring that ClearBlue's clients and internal teams are well-informed and strategically positioned. In addition to the Canadian carbon markets, the role will also involve coverage of other carbon markets globally as well.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Market Analysis and Insights: Formulate and communicate expert insights on Canadian Carbon pricing, including market trends, regulations and legislation. Provide in-depth analysis of policy development at the federal and provincial levels, market trends, role of project-based credits, interjurisdictional and global interactions.
  • Report Writing and Data Visualization: Produce high-quality reports and data visualizations, including monthly newsletters, quarterly supply and demand reports, live updates, and special topic reports. Ensure the accuracy and clarity of all written materials.
  • Data Management: Manage complex datasets. Utilize tools such as Excel for advanced quantitative modeling and analysis.
  • Building Forecasts: Develop and maintain long-term supply, demand, and price forecasts leveraging advanced quantitative methods and market intelligence to predict future market dynamics accurately.
  • Policy Research: Conduct thorough research on climate policy within each Canadian province and on the federal level. Be able to come up with scenarios on how policies may change as political circumstances change on both provincial and federal levels. Also, being able to connect Canada’s climate policy to the broader global climate policies.
  • Internal Expertise: Serve as the internal expert on the Canadian carbon market, providing timely insights to the Clearblue team. Stay abreast of industry developments and ensure the company's analysis and strategy align with the latest market trends and regulatory changes.
  • Client Engagement: Deliver on-demand analysis and quarterly update presentations to clients.
  • Coordination: Manage communication and projects between Market Analysis and other ClearBlue teams, as well as coordinating work within the market analysis team (e.g. building models with the Modelling Lead, coordinating on pricing with the dedicated pricing analyst)
  • Client Communications: Provide client-centric communications during customer calls and internal update meetings at ClearBlue. Ensure clear and effective dissemination of key findings and market trends.

Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree or equivalent in sustainability, environmental management, economics or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in carbon markets with compliance market obligations and involvement in carbon markets.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint. Python & PowerBi/Tableau are an asset.
  • The ability to explain difficult concepts in simple terms to peers, teams and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent quantitative skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop relationships with key market stakeholders and all levels internally and externally.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a passion for the carbon space.
  • Ability to collaborate across teams in a fast-paced environment and take ownership over the work product, find creative solutions to position ClearBlue’s research at the forefront of the industry, and adapt to the changing market conditions and client needs.
  • An affinity for carbon markets and reducing air emissions and environmental impact.
  • Positive and highly motivated attitude with a strong sense of ownership of work.
