Summary

We are seeking a hands-on General Contractor (Commercial Construction) who is responsible for coordinating, and overseeing the completion of construction and general maintenance projects. This includes ensuring that completion happens on time, within budget, and according to specified standards and regulations. The role requires strong leadership, experience completing construction projects that involve a wide variety of trades related skills, and in-depth knowledge of construction processes and safety regulations. Additional duties may be assigned based on business needs and individual capabilities.

Competencies

  • Strong Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and legal regulations.
  • Excellent time management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and think critically.
  • Proficiency utilizing a variety of tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.

Construction Supervision:

  • Leading all construction activities on-site to ensure adherence to project plans and quality standards. This could include tasks such as: Framing, drywalling, painting, basic plumbing, fixture installation, etc.
  • Ensuring the construction schedule meets the allocated timeline.
  • Schedule and coordinate work with subcontractors and construction crews.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure safety and compliance with building codes.

Budgeting and Cost Control:

  • Assisting the Construction Manager with forecasting construction budgets
  • Managing expenses, ensuring all expenditures are accounted for..
  • Monitor project costs and implement cost-saving measures where possible.

Quality Assurance and Compliance:

  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with local, and federal regulations.
  • Conduct quality control checks to guarantee the highest standards of workmanship.
  • Resolve any issues or conflicts that arise during construction promptly.

Safety Management:

  • Implement and enforce safety protocols to protect workers and site visitors.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations.
  • Investigate and report any accidents or safety incidents.

Communication and Reporting:

  • Acting as a liaison between third party trades people and the Construction Manager.
  • Provide regular progress reports to internal stakeholders.
  • Document project milestones, changes, and any issues that arise.

Team Leadership:

  • Work with cross functional divisions of the business, fostering a positive and productive work environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction management or a similar role.
  • Basic understanding of multiple trades.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily on-site at construction projects with some office work.
  • Must be able to work in various conditions and navigate construction sites.
  • Must have a valid G license and a vehicle. Frequent travel to sites within Ontario. Occasional travel outside of province may be required.
