Position: Newcomers’ Group Service Supervisor
Location: Edmonton, Alberta
 

Term: Full-time (37.5 hrs per week), ongoing
Compensation: $5,200 per month

The agency’s mission is to foster individual and group participation and action to improve the comprehensive and holistic health of diverse communities.AHC facilitates community development supports and engages equity-deserving individuals and groups using lenses of intersectionality to identify and address barriers. AHC implement strategies aimed at building capacities of individuals, families and communities, to foster improved social determinants of health, reduce poverty and vulnerability factors, and respond to social issues that impact safety and well-being.

Position Summary

As the Newcomers’ Group Service Supervisor, you will play a vital role in all our program areas, helping newcomers adjust and integrate into Canadian society. In this role, you’ll be responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing various group activities across programs, designed to support newcomers in their successful integration into Canadian society.

Key Responsibilities

? Assessment of Needs and Planning of Impactful/Strategic Group Services: Conduct group service assessments across AHC programs; and based on the assessment outcomes, plan group services focused on newcomers’ knowledge and skills enhancements for life in Canada.

? Implementation of Cross Program Group Services: Lead the organization of dynamic/blended virtual and in-person learning environments, and facilitate the delivery of informative and skills enhancement workshops focused on essential topics including among others, health, employment, entrepreneurship; adult learning in areas like English language learning, personal finance, family dynamics and children & youth development. Keeping up-to-date on best practices in effective adult learning methodologies.

? Community Connections: support newcomers to improve connections to local communities, networks, and community service providers to empower newcomers to navigate life in Canada. Facilitate the coordination of volunteer engagement in the delivery of AHC community connections services for newcomers.

? Building Strategic Partnerships: Collaborate with external partners like LINC programs, public libraries and local community centres/associations, to expand community-based learning opportunities and create strong learning and skills enhancements support networks for newcomers.

? Monitoring/Evaluation of Service and Learning Progress, Data Management & Reporting: ongoing monitoring and evaluation, data collection and analysis to measure progress, success and inform future plans. Ensure planned service targets are met and reports produced timely.

Required Qualifications, Experience and Competencies:

Qualifications and experience

? Degree in Education, Business Administration or other Social Sciences.

? 3+ years of experience in planning and facilitating the delivery of diverse informative and skills enhancement programming for newcomers.

? Proven leadership and supervisory skills, with demonstrated experience in leading small teams.

? Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

? Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; the ability to communicate in multiple languages is an asset.

? Strong ability to identify potential partners and develop/strengthen existing collaborations.

? Demonstrated ability to plan and execute successful workshops and skill building group programs.

? Must possess skills in service data tracking and analysis, and report writing.

? Experience with curriculum development and/or eLearning development including instructional design and video for LMS content creation is required

? Passion for supporting newcomers and fostering a welcoming and inclusive community.

? Must have an inclusive and anti-oppressive approach to engaging with diverse communities.

? Self-directed with strong skills to organize, plan, and prioritizeaccomplishment of work deliverables. Adaptable and flexible approach to work.

? Demonstrated ability to act with professionalism, confidentiality, and diplomacy, and ability to collaborate in a team environment.

? Working knowledge/ability to use technology applications (e.g., Microsoft Suite including SharePoint).Knowledge of Apricot is an asset.

Working Conditions

? Office Environment – In-person (occasional remote/virtual work).

? 37.5 hours – full-time position – some evening and weekend work may be required.

? Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract and a reliable vehicle required for some travel to various programming locations, mostly in the greater Edmonton region.
