Job Requirements / Description

Design Structures: Design innovative, cost-effective solutions for buried bridges, bridge abutments, footing, retaining walls, and sound wall products for the Canadian and International markets. Ensure designs comply with required design standards and geostructural engineering principles, utilizing Engineering analysis and CAD tools.

Geostructural Analysis: Perform geostructural analysis in accordance with applicable design standard requirements. When required, analyze structures with refined analysis (FEA) tools to evaluate the geostructural system’s performance under various loading conditions.

Project Management: Deliver projects which are on-time, on budget, and satisfy the expectations of interested parties.

Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve a process or a project’s solution. When improvement opportunities are approved, lead the implementation.

Risk Assessment: Identify design risks during the procurement, fabrication, construction, and field performance stages, and propose risk mitigation measures. When mitigation measures are approved, lead the implementation.

Research and Development: Support research and development projects through initial conception, analysis, testing, design and fabrication process development, commercialization, and market education.

Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues across all departments to provide effective solutions, training, and ongoing assistance. Coach employees as required.

Documentation: Prepare detailed design calculations, reports, and drawings to document and communicate technical information to interested parties in accordance with AIL’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Qualifications:

  • Engineering degree with knowledge in structural and geotechnical engineering. A Master’s degree and knowledge in soil-structure interaction are considered an asset.
  • 1 - 3 years of engineering experience is considered an asset.
  • Refined analysis (finite element) knowledge in either geotechnical and/or structural engineering fields. Familiarity with Plaxis considered an asset.
  • Effective leadership with a high level of interpersonal skills to work with internal technical sales staff and external clients.
  • Strong critical thinking.
  • Effective planning and organizational skills.
  • Bilingual (English/French) is considered an asset.
