The University of Ottawa Heart Institute seeks applications for a full-time academic cardiologist with specialization in PET imaging to lead the academic and clinical mission of Canada’s National PET Centre.The successful applicant would join a group of 43 cardiologists at UOHI. The University of Ottawa Heart Institute is a large tertiary centre providing cardiovascular care to Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec.The University of Ottawa Heart Institute is Canada’s largest and foremost heart health centre. It employs over 1,400 physicians, nurses, researchers, technicians, allied health professionals and more. The Institute handles more than 235,000 patients yearly from across Canada.In addition to state-of-the-art catheterization (4) and electrophysiology (4) labs, a dedicated cardiac imaging facility with PET, MRI, CT, SPECT and echocardiography imaging, core facilities include 96 inpatient ward beds, an intensive cardiac care unit (ICCU) with 14 beds, an intensive cardiac surgery unit (CSICU) with 27 beds, a Day Unit with 36 beds, a Reference Centre with 11 beds and a Structural Procedure Unit of 6 beds.The Division is renowned for delivery of outstanding cardiac care, excellence in education at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels (recognized as a leading training program in Canada and internationally) and recognized internationally for its research in particular in electrophysiology, cardiac imaging, STEMI/ACS coronary intervention, valvular disease, cardiac transplantation and pulmonary hypertension programs among others as well as strength in heart failure and structural interventions.The National Cardiac PET Centre is considered an international leader in clinical care, training, and research. The Centre includes 3 state-of-the-art PET cameras, on-site cyclotron and fully equipped radiochemistry laboratory. The Centre performs approximately 3500 PET scans per year for clinical care and research. The Centre is well interfaced with the Cardiac Imaging Program that includes and houses dedicated cardiac MRI, cardiac CT, SPECT and echocardiography with strong clinical and research interfaces.ResponsibilitiesThe Director will lead a multidisciplinary team that includes physicians, imaging scientists, nurses, and technologists to ensure ongoing excellence and growth with high quality imaging for patient care and cutting-edge research initiatives through peer reviewed and industry supported grants that lead to high impact publications, impact guidelines, and translate into clinical practice standards.QualificationsCandidates should have a significant academic profile, with a demonstrated track record of high-quality research.Health and welfare benefits including extended health, dental and disability insurance as well as life insurance are offered to full-time physicians. Academic appointment ranking will be based on qualifications and experience. However, we are targeting applications from those who qualify for Associate Professor or above.
