Head of Engineering

Our mission at Durable is to make owning a business easier than having a job. We envision a world where AI runs your business for you. Anyone with a skill will be able to launch a successful business in minutes. They will be able to focus only on doing their best work, not all the other challenges that come with running a business. AI will be their web designer, their marketing agency, their office admin, and their accountant. We launched the first AI Website builder (https://durable.co) (before chatGPT!), and have generated over 5 million sites. We have a long way to go to accomplish our ambitious vision. We raised a $14m Series A from Spark Capital last year, are generating significant revenue, and are a team of 20. What you'll do: The Head of Engineering will be the main driver in helping us build a world-class engineering organization, create breakthrough R&D, and be a great place to work. Responsibilities:Build a culture of engineering excellence and agency, empowering the engineering team to deliver their best workBuild a talent-dense engineering organization, recruiting a team of world-class engineers and establishing processes for hiring, onboarding, and retentionOwn the timeline and delivery of projects, setting expectations for a solid cadence and high level of qualityActively contribute to technology and product roadmap decisionsWho you are: An ambitious, experienced, steady hand who wants to make an impact on the world and change the world of small business. Minimum requirements:5+ years of experience managing high performing engineering teams, in manager and/or director level rolesExperience creating interview processes, and recruiting top talentPrevious hands-on experience as a software engineer building consumer or B2B products, giving you the ability to jump in and code, where neededThrives in a fast-moving, high rate of change environmentExperience setting and hitting a high quality and reliability bar for the engineering teamPositive and enthusiastic attitude, with a get-it-done mentalityPreferred qualifications:You keep up-to-date on the latest in AI engineering practices and researchYou’ve previously worked on large-scale consumer or B2B toolsExperience with AI/ML/Data ScienceExperience with Python, Javascript, NextJS, and Node.jsExperience with MongoDB and RedisRemote work @ Durable: We are a remote-first company with an in-person hub with 24/7 access in Vancouver.
