Your wide-ranging project management experience means you can juggle multiple projects effectively in a results-focused way. THE OPPORTUNITY As a leader within the technical staff team of the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board, you will help to deliver our global mission to fulfill the IPSASB’s strategic commitments. You will work closely with the volunteer board to lead in developing standard-setting solutions to complex and emerging public sector issues, including leading and managing other technical team members in the delivery of the IPSASB’s work program. Public sector entities are increasingly adopting International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) as part of wider public financial management reforms (PFM) recognizing that high-quality international accounting standards designed for the public sector provide value. During this dynamic time, you can help to shape the future of global public sector accounting by leading the delivery of the challenging projects on the IPSASB work program. The current work program includes topics regarding serious issues facing governments today. The IPSASB focuses on strengthening public financial management and sustainable development globally through increasing adoption of accrual IPSAS and international public sector sustainability reporting standards in two areas of activity, both with a public interest focus: Delivering global standards. This includes developing and maintaining public sector financial and sustainability reporting standards; Inspiring Adoption and Implementation. This includes raising awareness of the IPSASB Standards and the benefits of adoption and implementation. Your ability to operate effectively in this role will be enhanced by your leadership ability. You will need to bring technical expertise and project management expertise. Your technical proficiency is required to ensure you are current on the latest developments related to technical accounting, sustainability reporting/sustainable development, and public financial management. Your leadership, knowledge, and expertise are essential requirements for contributing creatively and technically to the delivery of leading-edge standard-setting projects. Your proactive leadership, ability to take the initiative, and dynamic project management will enable you to efficiently lead projects through to final high-quality standards. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES You will work closely with experienced volunteer board members from around the world. You will be responsible for: Identifying and diagnosing complex problems and developing global, public interest-oriented solutions. Developing standards and guidance that are clear and concise and that adhere to internal protocols. Leading presentations of agenda papers at public IPSASB meetings and other forums as appropriate and participating in discussions and working groups. Steering projects through the steps required to gain global confidence in the quality of outputs, including discussions of the IPSASB, IPSASB Consultative Advisory Group, National Public Sector Standard Setters, and the Public Interest Committee. Working as a member of the staff leadership team to support volunteers in a dynamic, collaborative, multi-cultural, and collegial environment. Engaging with stakeholders such as governments, regulators, standard setters, accountancy firms, governance groups, and professional accountancy organizations around the world, as appropriate. Serving as a key contact for one or more of the Board’s liaison and outreach activities with key stakeholder groups. Managing staff team members, including coaching and development. YOUR QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of issues relating to technical accounting and/or sustainability reporting. Direct experience in standard-setting or public sector accounting/financial management/sustainable development experience is required, including the preparation of public sector financial reports or the audit of public sector entities. Knowledge of either IPSAS or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs) is desirable. Sustainability reporting experience is highly desirable. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Fluency in written and spoken English is essential – knowledge of another language is desirable. Excellent technical and project management skills and strong computer literacy are required. Experience leading complex projects, including managing and collaborating with others to meet project goals and deadlines. At a minimum, a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in accounting or other relevant field. 5 years of directly related work experience and 10+ years of professional experience. Professional accounting designation or other relevant professional certification desirable.
