Pilot, Pool – 1.0 FTE – Permanent – Any STARS Base
Is this challenge for you?
Reporting to the Aviation Base Manager, the STARS pool pilot is an integral member of the Aviation team. The STARS pool pilot safely and effectively pilots STARS aircraft and is an active member of the STARS operational team. The STARS pool pilot will work a schedule of day and night shifts to make our 24/7/365 patient care mission possible.
Do you have what it takes?
You are a professional helicopter pilot who thrives in a highly engaging team-based environment with excellent communications and organizational skills. The position requires you must be flexible with scheduling and may require travel to any STARS base with less than 24 hours’ notice to act as PIC or SIC. You are expected to be employable at any STARS base for up to 14 days, but may be extended to 42 days at a time due to unforeseen operational requirements. Please note: You must currently be an aircraft captain or be eligible to upgrade to captain in the 12 months.
Your Key Responsibilities
This position is classified as safety sensitive. Incumbents are responsible to be Fit to Work. This is necessary for workplace safety and to ensure both team members and STARS meet their obligations as outlined in Occupational Health and Safety Act(s).

Your Key Responsibilities
- Safely and effectively pilot STARS aircraft;
- Maintain a category 1 aviation medical;
- Maintain currency and proficiency with respect to:
- Aircraft flown
- Regulations
- Publications
- Training standards
- Licensing requirements
- Function as an active member of the STARS operational team;
- Participate in fundraising and public relations activities as required.
- A valid Commercial Rotary Wing Licence
- A minimum of 2000 hours of helicopter experience
- Multi-Engine and Night/IFR experience
- Helicopter Airline Transport Licence exams completed
- Group 4 Instrument rating and Helicopter Night Ratings are required
- Valid Class 1 medical
- Airbus H145 type rating will be considered an asset.
- Ability to successfully complete the Controlled Goods Security Assessment Application for Night Vision Goggle purposes
- Valid Canadian Passport or ability to work in Canada and the ability to travel to the USA
- Immunization records with required vaccinations
- The position requires the applicant to work a schedule of day and night shifts to make our 24/7/365 patient care mission possible.

- All STARS Pilot roles are physically demanding and require overall strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular capabilities.
- Ability to perform all Pilot duties in varying work environments such as inclement weather, rugged and/or remote terrain, restricted spaces, and high altitudes will be required.
