AGRI-NEO – JOB DESCRIPTIONDesign Engineer Member of: Engineering TeamLocation: Toronto, ON COMPANYAgri-Neo’s mission is to help safely feed the world. Our vision to accomplish this is to set new food safety standards with our treatments for many foods. Our first product line is Neo-Pure, which leverages our proprietary technology of liquid formulas and systems that apply our solutions onto spices, seeds, herbs, and nuts in food processing facilities. These solutions control pathogens such as Salmonella and other quality indicator microorganisms (TPC, coliforms, etc.) to ensure the food is safe to eat and to prevent recalls. We have several customers throughout the globe (North America, Latin America, China, and Egypt), including large mainstream food processors that treat food continuously at high throughputs. We are scaling up our products at more mainstream customer sites to ensure that we set new food safety and food quality standards to help safely feed the world.POSITION SUMMARYThe Design Engineer is primarily responsible for assisting in the development of new food safety systems. This position will utilize best practices and research to turn new ideas into turnkey systems ready for installation and use at food facilities across the globe. This will require creativity, and focus. The individual will be expected to work with the Engineering team to evaluate design solutions, incorporate designs, with the guidance of the Senior Design Engineer. This includes but is not limited to concept design, design for manufacturing, documentation creation and management.The Design Engineer will also be responsible for or assist in the continuous improvements of current food safety systems. This includes but is not limited to cost engineering, simplifying designs for manufacturing and operation, along with adding sensors and other value-add items. Key ResponsibilitiesReports to the Senior Design Engineer and will work alongside engineers to design and build solutions to a variety of technical problems. Update 3D models to reflect our units as they are currently being built using SolidWorks. Make 2D Fabrication drawings that reflect the 3D model changes. Identify opportunities for design improvements. Support all mechanical aspects of the design and development of new food safety systems to meet performance, cost, and durability requirements. Performing research as needed and make recommendations on appropriate engineering approaches to design challenges.Design and manage mechanical parts and assemblies using SolidWorks.Ensure all components are designed in compliance with local codes and regulations.Design and manufacture prototypes to test new concepts.Develop FAT and SAT standards and reports for verification for all development activities, from prototypes to full scale systems.Select and size various components as it pertains to the development of new and existing systems (for example, but not limited to materials, sensors, fans, seals, servo motors, pneumatics, etc.)Prepare and manage drawing packages with bills of materials for new system builds and when improvements are made to existing systems.Work with engineers, manufacturers, and vendors to review designs, select components, review manufacturing processes, and verify quality.Support in the creation of technical product documentation such as parts manuals, operator manuals, service bulletins etc.Occasional travel to support the fabrication and assembly of new and existing system components. Participate in continuous improvement activities.Qualifications:Post-Secondary degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field required. 2-4 years of engineering experience in industrial equipment design.2-4 years’ experience with SolidWorks. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software. Must have a valid driver’s license, passport & insurance. Must be able to travel up to 20% of the time.Skills:Working knowledge of 3D software, preferably SolidWorks software. Ability to manage complex and time-sensitive projects. Read and understand engineering drawings, schematics, specifications, and technical manuals. Skilled in troubleshooting techniques and a complete understanding of mechanical, and hydraulic equipment.Strong work ethic and a track record of personal and professional growth. Highly organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
