Practical Conservation Group Leader - Cornwall

As a Conservation Group Leader you will lead groups of volunteers in various activities in Cornwall. These can include surveys of butterflies in flight, surveys of larval webs, or habitat management work in key habitat areas for rare species. You would be responsible for ensuring all volunteers follow health and safety guidelines as well as ensuring the conservation work is carried out effectively and safely, to ensure everyone stays safe.

This role is essential for increasing the amount of conservation workdays that CBC can provide, helping us to protect more species and ensure habitats and populations aren’t lost to scrub encroachment. The Volunteer Coordinator will organise the event for you, and you will be responsible for attending the work party and leading the group, telling the group about the health and safety guidelines and risks involved, being the first aider, taking an attendance register, collecting tools, returning them, and sending in records. Butterfly Conservation can provide you with first aid training if needed.

This role will only require a commitment of 3 days per year, with the option to do more if you wish. The days you volunteer will be your choice and can be done at any time in the year.

A driving license and access to your own vehicle is essential and fuel expenses will be reimbursed.

Work parties can be conducted across Cornwall, and you can lead work parties that are near you. At the moment, most work parties occur around Bodmin Moor, but this is not exclusive, and may change in the future. Please still enquire if you are interested but not near Bodmin Moor, work parties can be tailored to suit you.
