Status: Permanent, Full-Time Salary Range: $30.20 - $31.89 Location: Culinary Program  Hours of work: Monday to Friday - 8am to 4pm Job Summary: Under the direction of the Director of Community Services and the Manager of Culinary Training Program., this position is responsible for providing hands-on support and direction to the students, graduates of the culinary training program and café staff of Social Crust Café . This position is responsible for supporting daily operations in the café, and the culinary training program. These duties include: working alongside and in collaboration with Housing site Chefs, Café staff, Program Support worker as well as current students in the culinary training program. This position is responsible for the entire student life cycle from; selection, instruction, evaluation and assigning work placements. This position also supports graduates and current staff in the café, to further their development of cooking skills and life skills to increase employability and success in a cooking/hospitality career. Typical Duties: Collaborate with Café staff in regards to new students and Cafe training/work placements. Work alongside students in various positions during their work placements and extended practicums. This may include working on the Café line during lunch rush, supporting the prep team, or training students as a barista or cashier. Teaches clients & staff using a variety of instructional methodologies to enable the development of skills. Experience teaching people with various learning needs an asset. Coordinates daily lessons and is responsible for the organization and execution of the training material, and organizes students during work experience to meet their learning goals. Formally evaluates staff and students in areas such as technical and interpersonal skill development, provides feedback, and assist in evaluations Collaborates with Mental Health workers, community supports and Program Manager in order to provide and attain information that assists in maximizing students/staff potential in meeting their goals. Maintains and implements a cleaning routine which includes daily, monthly and annual cleaning of the food service areas. Ensures kitchen equipment remains in good and safe working conditions. Performs other related duties as assigned. Mentors students and café staff using a variety of instructional methodologies to enable the development of skills necessary for increased employability and/or personal independence. Maintains all relevant records and documentation. Provides work direction and feedback to staff and students engaged in the cafe. Network and market the program through ongoing Employer contact. Qualifications: Typical Education, training, and experience Professional Cooking certificate 5 Years of culinary experience in a variety of settings 2 Years experience in Catering 1-2 Years teaching experience in a culinary environment Provincial Instructors Diploma or equivalent experience Grade 12 education or equivalent Food Safe Certificate First Aid Level 1 WHMIS Physically able to lift 50lbs About Coast Coast Mental Health (Coast) is one of the largest mental health non-profit societies in Canada, and operates a large array of innovative housing and community based rehabilitation services for people with a mental illness living in and around Vancouver.
