Established in 2011, the Sylvia Fedoruk Canadian Centre for Nuclear Innovation Inc. (Fedoruk Centre) is a not-for-profit corporation located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan that provides funding for research projects in nuclear science and technology, promotes training and the creation of new faculty positions, operates the Saskatchewan Cyclotron Facility and provides consultative resources in the nuclear domain. The Fedoruk Centre supports innovation across a variety of nuclear topics ranging through medicine, energy (including development of small modular reactors), social and environmental sciences, safety, and regulatory issues, among other applications of nuclear technology.
Given the wide range of applications of nuclear technology within medical, energy, materials, agricultural, and the environmental sectors, nuclear innovation offers opportunities to enhance Saskatchewan’s health and economic prosperity. The purpose of the Fedoruk Centre is to place Saskatchewan among the global leaders in nuclear research, development, and training by investing in partnerships with academia and industry for maximum societal and economic benefit. The Fedoruk Centre aims to open new opportunities for activity in Saskatchewan’s nuclear sector.
Responsibilities
The Executive Director is responsible for the execution of the Fedoruk Centre’s business and is accountable to an independent Board of Directors.
As the global face of the Fedoruk Centre, the Executive Director represents the Fedoruk Centre to the public and to the founding stakeholders: The University of Saskatchewan and the Government of Saskatchewan through its agency, Innovation Saskatchewan.
Facilitating dialogue between universities, colleges, and the Board to develop new opportunities for collaboration including the creation of Chairs in topics related to nuclear science and technology.
Ensuring the safe and sustainable operation of the Saskatchewan Cyclotron Facility, including reliable delivery of radiopharmaceuticals to regional hospitals, and supporting innovation in radiochemistry, imaging, therapeutics, and applications to life sciences.
Making funding decisions to support research projects based in Saskatchewan across the spectrum of nuclear innovation supported by a Project Advisory Committee.
Ensuring a safe, respectful, and productive workplace that delivers high-value nuclear innovation and resources throughout the province.
Qualifications
In the case of candidates with a scientific and/or research background, suitable candidates will possess:
A Doctoral degree with a focus on nuclear science, chemistry, physics, engineering, or health sciences.
A track record of executive leadership.
In the case of candidates with an industrial background, suitable candidates will possess:
A minimum of a Master's degree with a focus on nuclear science, chemistry, physics, engineering, or health sciences.
A track record of executive leadership.
The successful candidate must demonstrate the experience and expertise to lead a unique organization that enables the people of Saskatchewan to work at the forefront of nuclear innovation. In either case of background, a track record of successful revenue generation will be considered an asset.
