The Family and Children's Services Branch is responsible for territory-wide delivery of child protection services and programs that support positive and healthy outcomes for children, youth, and their families. The unit responds to complex and crisis situations and works with families to ensure continued safety and well-being of children. Collaborative working relationships with Yukon First Nations and Indigenous Governing bodies are critical in this work. This unit also provides on-call services 24/7 to ensure that a response to concerns of child harm is available, at any time, every day of the year.
Your role
Reporting to the Manager of Family Services, the Family Services Supervisor is a challenging and highly rewarding position that has supervisory responsibilities for programs and services legislated by the Child and Family Services Act (CFSA). This position is accountable for providing supervision to child protection social workers, social worker assistants, and case aides; managing a broad range of services that protect children and youth from harm; interpreting policy, legislation, and practice standards; assigning and evaluating work while managing workload demands including identifying learning needs, interests of staff, conducting performance evaluations, and providing formal feedback.
The ideal candidate will have a passion and commitment to children's services. This role requires an individual with well-developed interpersonal and supervisory skills, time management, good organizational skills, cultural sensitivity, the ability to work collaboratively, and a commitment to relationship-based social work ensuring the community is a safe and caring environment in which children and their families may develop to their full potential.

Essential qualifications
Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the qualifications below. Selections for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.
Bachelor of Social Work degree from an accredited University
Considerable relevant experience working in child protection and delivering child protection services, experience in providing services to families, children, and individuals;
Demonstrated leadership and experience supervising staff; including coaching, promotion of team morale, and focus on client-centred productivity to ensure operational effectiveness; and,
Experience working with First Nation Governments and communities will be considered an asset
Desired knowledge, skills and suitability

Ability to work in a multicultural environment with an emphasis on Yukon First Nation's culture;
Strong understanding and application of social work principles specifically in child welfare and case management;
Proven ability to build collaborative partnerships with diverse stakeholders, including government and private agencies.
Effective management of complex workloads to achieve results and meet responsibilities
Skilled in problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict resolution in order to make and modify operational decisions;
Genuine commitment in cultivating learning and growth of others with a focus on developmental intent and effect;
Demonstrated interest in child and family services including child protection;
Proficient in sound ethical decision-making skills that align with professional standards;
Ability to take a broad-based, strategic approach to community development in response to mandated client service;
Ability to prepare affidavits, court documents, and intervention services including investigations and core protection services; and,
The skill to work with high-risk complex cases with a strong ability to help deescalate clients.
Conditions of employment
RCMP Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search
A child welfare record check satisfactory to the employer.
Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent
Verification of Bachelor of Social Work Degree
Must demonstrate the ability to be delegated under the Child and Family Services Act within 12 months of hire.
WHMIS 2015 (within one month of hire)

This job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to, the following:
Dealing with potentially volatile and aggressive individuals.
Travel and work in both formal and informal work environments within Yukon and outside of territory.
Working evenings, weekends, statutory holidays, and after hours on a rotational basis.
