Industrial Light & Magic is looking for a Compositing Supervisor to join our extraordinary team! The Compositing Supervisor works as a hands-on collaborator with the VFX Supervisor, CG Supervisor, department supervisors and leads to ensure that all delivered shots maintain the group’s exceptional standards. With minimal direction and mentorship from their supervisors, their primary task is to support their leads, artists, and Production to produce outstanding compositing for complex shots in industry leading, photo-realistic visual effects films and feature animations.

What You’ll Do
Provide highly detailed creative and technical feedback and support to leads and artists
Guide the Compositing team in achieving the vision of the Director and VFX Supervisor
Advocate to achieve the highest quality aesthetic results in the compositing domain at the shot and show level; have the ability to not only manage the team, but complete the highest-level and most complex shot work
Take a primary role in creating efficiencies and advantages in software capabilities for department and show requirements
Participate in colour management, including the ingestion of scanned photography and internal colour management systems to ensure colour consistency of ILM’s work
Handle quality control issues as shots go to film
Communicate effectively with all levels of Production, VFX Supervisor, client/director, discipline supervisor peers and Compositing team
Responsible for genuine, timely feedback to Compositing crew members
Act as a point person between Production and Compositing crews, providing clear and timely communication
Assemble crew for production, assess individual’s skills, and delegate work appropriately
Participate in the supervision and direction of a variety of administrative and personnel decisions and responsibilities including: recruitment, determination of work procedures and priorities, career development, employee morale, performance reviews and conflict resolution
Participate in the creation and submission of shot bids
Assess work for a shot and is responsible for its completion
Assist the department talent manager with the employee review process and the scheduling of personnel on shows, providing input on skills, productivity, and career development
Assist with problem solving efforts and communicating issues organizationally, logistically, and technically
Supervise and train less experienced compositing artists
Foster a team environment
What We’re Looking For
8+ years production experience or feature film experience with compositing work
2+ years of experience in a leading role
Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, computer graphics or other relevant field; or equivalent experience
Demo reel required
References required
Ability to work with competency, energy and enthusiasm within a team environment with minimal supervision
Exhibits excellent listening and interpersonal skills, able to receive direction and criticism
Demonstrates an extraordinarily refined aesthetic eye, anticipating potential problems and using knowledge of how to use the tools to achieve the desired look
Expert-level Nuke abilities
Consistent track record to pick up new software and proprietary pipelines
Excellent communication skills a must
Highly skilled in all aspects of compositing, colour tools and methodologies, matte extraction techniques, 2.5d compositing techniques, scanning and timing process
Understanding of photography, composition, lighting, colour, and motion
Ability to mentor less experienced Compositors
Working knowledge of Unix and shell scripting
Python experience is a plus

The hiring range for this position in Vancouver is C$153,600 to C$196,700 per year based on a 40-hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A full range of medical, financial, and/or other variable pay or benefits, may be offered dependent on the level and position offered.
