Summit is seeking a dynamic and strategic Senior Manager, Life & Group Benefits to spearhead the development and management of our Life & Group Benefits division. This role will be instrumental in building and scaling our Employee Benefits vertical, enabling cross-sell opportunities with our existing clients, prospecting new clients, and recruiting and leading a specialized benefits sales team. You’ll bring a strong understanding of the group benefits landscape, a network in the industry, and the leadership skills needed to build a high-performing team.
Responsibilities Develop and Execute the Division Strategy : Build out the vision, goals, and strategy for the Life & Group Benefits division, aligning with Summit’s mission and values.
Cross-Sell and Upsell Opportunities : Work closely with the commercial insurance team to identify cross-sell opportunities within Summit’s current client portfolio.
Prospect New Clients : Drive new business acquisition by targeting companies seeking high-quality, customized life and benefits solutions.
Build and Lead a Team : Recruit, train, and mentor a sales team dedicated to Employee Benefits, fostering a high-performance culture focused on client-centric solutions and division growth.
Client Relationship Management : Develop and maintain relationships with key decision-makers within prospective and existing client organizations, offering guidance and insights into the benefits landscape.
Product Development and Customization : Work closely with insurance carriers and industry partners to create and tailor group benefits packages that meet the unique needs of our clients.
Sales Enablement and Support : Develop and implement best practices, sales materials, and processes to ensure the team can deliver exceptional client experiences from prospecting through to renewal.
Market and Industry Insights : Stay on top of industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitor offerings, ensuring Summit’s Employee Benefits products remain competitive and innovative.
Provide Feedback and Strategic Insights : Share insights and recommendations with Summit’s executive team to continuously refine and improve the Employee Benefits offering.
Skills & Qualifications Industry Experience : 7+ years of experience in Life & Group Benefits sales, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role. Eligible to be the Designated Representative for an organization.
Proven Track Record : Demonstrated success in sales and client acquisition in the group benefits or employee benefits sector, with experience in both cross-selling and new business development.
Leadership : Experience building, managing, and scaling a sales team, with a focus on high-performance and employee engagement.
Relationship Building : Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to cultivate and maintain long-lasting client and partner relationships.
Strategic Acumen : Ability to set and execute a growth strategy, with an understanding of both the group benefits landscape and the unique challenges and opportunities it presents.
Regulatory Knowledge : Up-to-date knowledge of Canadian life and group benefits regulations, compliance requirements, and industry trends.
Sales Skills : Excellent negotiation, presentation, and communication skills, with a client-first approach.
