The Position: As the leader for the Cloud team within our Advanced Vehicle Technology Organization, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our telemetry technology. Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams of engineers, your expertise will drive the data helping optimize vehicle performance, enhancing safety, and ensuring operational efficiency. The team of cloud engineers are based in Queretero, Mexico and Collingwood, Ontario, making up one of four verticals in the Vehicle Management Systems department, which is shaping the design and build out of our data ecosystem and control platforms. You will be responsible for new feature development like predictive maintenance, vehicle application performance evaluation, and BEV trend insights. The successful candidate will be at the forefront of a rapidly growing technology sector, directly contributing to innovative solutions for real-world challenges in underground mining battery electric and diesel telemetry. Responsibilities and Duties Technical Leadership and Mentorship Lead a team of engineers in designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining scalable and secure cloud-based solutions for telemetry data processing and visualization. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Backend Ownership and Management Own the architecture, development, and operation of backend systems handling telemetry data ingestion, storage, processing, and analysis. Implement best practices for cloud infrastructure management, ensuring high availability, disaster recovery, and cost optimization. Design efficient backend software solutions and REST APIs in Python using frameworks like express. Data Ecosystem Management Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of telemetry data, including extraction, transformation, loading (ETL), storage, and retrieval. Design and implement data pipelines and workflows to support real-time and batch processing requirements. Utilize tools and protocols such as Python, Pandas, OPC UA, MQTT, and cloud computing platforms (Azure, AWS). Manage database systems including Azure Postgres Database, SQL, NoSQL, Timeseries DB, Snowflake, Active Directory, Data Lake/Warehouse. Web-Based Front-End Development Oversee the development and enhancement of intuitive and responsive web-based front ends for telemetry data visualization and user interaction. Ensure UI and UX design principles are implemented effectively, meeting both functional and aesthetic requirements. Utilize HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and front-end frameworks like React and NextJS. Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including product management, QA, and operations to align technology solutions with business objectives. Act as a technical liaison with stakeholders, providing updates, gathering requirements, and addressing technical concerns. Understand CAN protocols, including CANOpen and J1939, for effective communication with vehicle systems and intelligent processing/display of vehicle data. Performance Monitoring and Optimization Monitor system performance metrics and implement optimization to ensure scalability, reliability, and efficiency of cloud-based applications and services. Conduct regular system audits and implement security measures to safeguard telemetry data and infrastructure. Demonstrate advanced knowledge of security principles and implementation. Documentation and Compliance Maintain comprehensive documentation of system architecture, configurations, and processes. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, data protection standards, and industry best practices. Deployment and Project Management Tools Utilize development tools like Visual Studio Code and project management tools like Azure DevOps. Utilize Docker, container orchestration, and Kubernetes for deployment. Design and implement automated testing suites, environment management, and deployment pipelines (Jenkins, Azure). Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, leadership abilities, and problem-solving capabilities. They will demonstrate organizational skills, discipline, an aptitude for proactive learning, and a positive attitude. Additionally, they should meet the following qualifications: At least 5 years of engineering development experience in software engineering, or related field. Minimum 5 years of experience with the job responsibilities and duties described above. Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in other languages, primarily Spanish and French, is an asset. Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, computer science, or a related field is an asset. Professional Engineer (P.Eng) license or similar certification is an asset. Mobile vehicle telemetry and Mining experience are an asset.
