Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for Dental Hygienist to join the Early Years Program team at Richmond Community Support Services in Richmond, BC. Apply today to join our team!
As a Dental Hygienist with VCH, you will:
Work collaboratively as a member of the interdisciplinary team, provides oral health prevention and promotion services.
Demonstrate an ability to embed a health promotion and population health lens into clinical service delivery.
Assist in developing and implementing strategies for the oral health program, provides input into the evaluation of dental programs and services and identifies oral health treatment needs for universal and enhanced service.
Organize, provide, manage, and advocate oral health promotional activities primarily for pregnant individuals and to the 0-6 early childhood in collaboration and coordination with related community, health and academic partners to promote healthy outcomes.
Consult with client’s family/caregivers about caring for client’s teeth and makes recommendations for follow up care.
Qualifications Education & Experience
Two (2) years’ recent related experience in community oral health prevention with pregnant individuals and to the 0-6 early childhood and promotion and general dental hygiene practice or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Current registration as a Dental Hygienist as required by the College of Dental Hygienists of British Columbia and maintenance of continuing education required for retention registration. Public health and population health knowledge and experience are preferred.
Valid BC Driver’s License.
Knowledge & Abilities
Knowledge of oral health issues for universal and enhanced services for the early years population (0-6 year old).
Demonstrated ability to apply current educational pedagogy to oral health education.
Demonstrated ability to perform literature reviews and develop best practice guidelines.
Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with public and various levels of staff.
Demonstrated ability to advocate for oral health at a population health level and apply a health promotion and population health lens into clinical service delivery.
Demonstrated ability to provide oral health counselling using a client and family centred care approach.
Knowledge and training of Indigenous Cultural safety and experience providing culturally safe care to Indigenous people, families, and communities.
Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of trauma and violence informed practice.
Knowledge and ability to provide services using a harm reduction approach.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
Knowledge of working with clients and families across the life span.
Knowledge of Community resources and policies.
Demonstrates an ability to embed a health promotion and population health lens into clinical service delivery.
Demonstrated ability to apply decision-making and analytical skills.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interprofessional team.
Demonstrated ability to effectively deal with conflict situations.
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
Demonstrated computer literacy to operate a computerized client care information system as well as applicable word processing, spreadsheet and database software applications.
Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
