Position Description
POSITION SUMMARY: The role of the Speech Language Pathologist is to provide clinical, counselling and education services to referred adult patients presenting with communication and/or swallowing disorders. The Speech Language Pathologist works autonomously, but collaboratively with a broad range of other disciplines both internally and externally to SJHH. Prevention activities, research, training, education and organizational tasks associated with caseload management, and successful functionality of the Department of Speech-Language Pathology and the clinical program within SJHH are also included within this position. All clinical work is consistent with the standards established by the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO). QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's level degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited university
Current registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO)
Must have completed the training for the Modified Barium Impairment Profile (MBSImP)
Membership with the Ontario Speech Language Pathology Association (OSLA) preferred
Assisted Devices Program Certification preferred
Minimum one year experience with a varied adult caseload
Able to work independently, especially in the areas of neurogenic, voice, head and neck cancer, cognitive-communication and swallowing dependent upon the caseload
Experience with Videofluorscopic Swallow Studies preferred
Experience with Augmentative Alternative Communication an asset
Experience with ventilator-dependent patients and patients with a tracheostomy an asset
Willingness to work collaboratively with health care professionals
Able to be flexible in work assignments
Able to organize and prioritize multiple demands
Working knowledge of the relevant professional specific and broader legislation, including the Health Care Consent Act, Substitute Decisions Act and Public Hospitals Act
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Able to use Microsoft office and boardmaker
Must be willing to work extended hours and on weekends
