Job description Sunflower Early Learning Society (SELS) is a Reggio-inspired, early learning centre, based in Pemberton Heights, North Vancouver, BC. Our mission is to provide a safe, affordable, high quality early learning environment for the children in our community. SELS offers a preschool program, a before and after school program, and seasonal camps. Our goal is to offer a safe, calm and happy environment where children can grow intellectually, emotionally, physically, and socially. SELS is currently looking for an Executive Director with a strong operations background that shares these values and will be invested in running the day-to-day administration and operational management of the school. The Executive Director will be the first point of contact for the school to families and prospective families and will collaborate with the Lead Teachers to run the day-to-day operations of the school. This role reports directly to the SELS Board of Directors. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: Leadership: Foster effective teamwork between the Board, Executive Director and teaching and administrative staff Collaborate with the Board of Directors in developing a vision and strategic plan to guide the organization Identify, assess, and inform the Board of Directors of internal and external issues that affect the organization Act as a professional advisor to the Board of Directors on all aspects of the organization and its activities Act as the primary point of contact for the organization with the Pemberton Heights Community Association, Vancouver Coastal Health, and the District of North Vancouver as needed Conduct official correspondence on behalf of the Board as appropriate and jointly with the Board when appropriate Represent the organization at community activities to enhance the organization’s community profile Operational planning and management: Develop and implement an operational plan which incorporates goals and objectives that work towards the strategic direction of the organization Ensure that the operation of the organization meets the expectations and needs of its families, staff, the Board, and the community Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the organization Draft policies for the approval of the Board and prepare procedures to implement the organizational policies; review and update existing policies on an annual basis and recommend changes to the Board as appropriate Ensure that children and staff files are maintained and are securely stored and that privacy/confidentiality is maintained Provide support and facilitate key communications to the Board by preparing meeting agenda and supporting materials Program Planning and Management: Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of the organization’s programs and services on an ongoing basis Ensure that the programs and services offered by the organization contribute to the organization’s mission and reflect the priorities of the Board Monitor the day-to-day delivery of the programs and services of the organization to maintain or improve quality Keep materials, website and communications up-to-date Oversee the planning, implementation, execution and evaluation of special projects Human resources planning and management: Determine staffing requirements for organizational management and program delivery Oversee the implementation of the human resources policies, procedures and practices including the development of job descriptions and job postings for all staff Establish a positive, healthy and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations Recruit, interview and select staff that have the right credentials and personal abilities to help further the organization’s mission Ensure that all staff receives an orientation to the organization and that appropriate training is provided and documented Coach and mentor staff as appropriate, to improve performance Financial planning and management: Partner with staff and the Board (Finance Committee) to prepare a comprehensive budget Complete annual grant applications and administration to maintain the society’s external funding levels, and make recommendations as to further funding opportunities Review monthly financial statements prepared by the bookkeeper and report same to Board Research funding sources, oversee the development of fundraising plans and write funding proposals to increase the funds of the organization Participate in fundraising activities as appropriate Approve expenditures within the authority delegated by the Board In consultation with the bookkeeper, ensure that sound bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed Administer the funds of the organization according to the approved budget and monitor the monthly cash flow of the organization With the support of the accountant, ensure that the organization complies with all legislation covering taxation and withholding payments REQUIREMENTS: 3+ years of leadership experience preferably in a non-profit organization. Knowledge of all federal and provincial legislation applicable to organizations including: employment standards, human rights, occupational health and safety, charities, taxation, CPP, EI, health coverage etc. Knowledge of current Child Care BC Act, BC Early Learning Framework, and Vancouver Coastal Health Licensing requirements Basic ECE 2 years Leadership/Management experience #J-18808-Ljbffr
