FX - Jedi Academy (Open to B.C. Residents - Canadian Citizens & PR - only)

Job Summary: Are you looking to get in the door of the exciting world of VFX? ILM’s Jedi Academy may be just the thing for you! The Jedi Academy provides the opportunity for recently graduated students or artists with up to two years experience to train under our Jedi Masters. In this paid experience, as the successful applicant, you will be carefully placed into the Effects department and will hone your skills in all areas needed to become a successful artist and team member. You will gain experience through training and mentorship, in a fast-paced and highly collaborative production environment. To top it off, graduates who successfully complete the program may be offered a Junior Artist position within the studio. What You Need to Know The Jedi Academy role is a paid 6-week placement beginning November 12th, 2024 This role is considered Hybrid, which means you will work onsite at our Vancouver studio and from home You will be required to work full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 9am to 6pm We do not provide assistance for relocation, housing, transportation, or work authorization for the Jedi Academy You must be a . Resident, Canadian Citizen or hold Canadian Permanent Resident status You will have graduated from a relevant course within the last 12 months or have up to two years of VFX experience What You’ll Do Receive mentorship and work on entry level shot work including running simple/pre-canned effects  Present your work to the supervisor / trainer and receive feedback Implement supervisors / trainers feedback Gather reference for your shots when needed Learn data management of shots including clean up Be one of a small team of Jedi’s from multiple disciplines Strengthen professional habits, including best practices for presenting work, working as a team, and communicating effectively Gain knowledge and appreciation of ILM’s culture and history What We’re Looking For Degree in visual effects or self taught, less than 2 years of work experience Positive outlook, artistic and technical talent Excited for the industry and excited to learn Good organization and interpersonal skills A demo reel demonstrating a strong understanding of effects principles and artistic ability Basic knowledge and understanding of Math and Physics, and how it applies to computer graphics Keen interest of the entire production pipeline outside of the FX discipline Experience using and a firm grasp of Houdini Scripting experience is a plus (Linux or Python) Enjoying a fast paced, creative and diverse work environment Join ILM The pay rate for this role in Vancouver is C$25.14 per hour.
