Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) – Applied Mathematics (Scientific Machine Learning and PDEs)The Department of Mathematics at Simon Fraser University (SFU) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an expected start date of July 15, 2025.We invite applications from researchers whose research is at the interface of scientific machine learning with PDEs, optimal transport or optimization. Our Scientific Computing, Machine Learning and PDE research group (SciMAP) has established strengths in scientific computing, approximation theory, machine learning, the analysis of PDEs, and the mathematics of data. The successful candidate will build on and complement these strengths, develop a vibrant research program, teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels, provide service to the department, and contribute to building equitable, diverse and inclusive environments.QualificationsExcellence in research and teaching is the primary criterion for this position. The successful candidate must:Hold a Ph.D. in mathematics or a closely related discipline.Have an outstanding scientific record of research at the interface of scientific machine learning with PDEs, optimal transport or optimization.Demonstrate strong potential in their future research plans.Demonstrate the potential to strengthen the SciMAP group’s research and to teach upper-division and graduate-level courses in applied mathematics.Demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.Demonstrate interest and ability to realize excellence in teaching and the supervision of highly qualified personnel.The following are considered assets:Demonstrated record of research on applications arising in the physical sciences or experience in weather or climate science.Evidence of strong commitment to service to the academic community.Applications must be submitted online via MathJobs: https://www.mathjobs.org/jobs/list/25436. The base salary range for this role at the Assistant Professor rank is $104,700 – $133,322 (dependent on experience).
