Application Deadline: Monday, October 7 (we will review applications on a rolling-basis)Duration: 8 monthsPositions Available: 1Start Date: Monday, January 6, 2025For this exciting position, we are specifically targeting students with a background in Geological, Geotechnical, Civil, or Mining Engineering. We are looking for students with good communication and interpersonal skills, an analytical mentality, strong time management skills, and a drive to learn. You will have the opportunity to work out of the Calgary office as well as to visit some of Teck’s operating and closed mine sites. Depending on the needs and location of the team, you will need to work PDT or MDT or relocate to a specific office (site-based). You must also currently be a student enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution and will be enrolled throughout the duration of the co-op term (you will also be returning back to the post-secondary institution once the co-op term is completed). With the vast landscape of the Canadian Rockies nearby, the area is filled with nature and year-round outdoor activities when you need a getaway from the city life.Salary Range: $4600 - $5800 / MonthSalary is commensurate with the number of academic semesters and prior co-op experiences completed.ResponsibilitiesBe a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and proceduresParticipation in the health and safety programs of Teck to ensure that everyone on site goes home safe and healthy every daySupports the tailings teams with a focus on monitoring, managing, and coordinating TSF and Dam data and informationProvide geotechnical support to Corporate tailings team and site tailings teamsSupport the implementation of standard processes for governance requirements (e.g. MAC Tailings Management Protocol, internal standards, GISTM)Coordinate activities and information sharing with Consultants, site teams, and other Teck corporate groups, as requiredSupport continual improvement and innovation ideas related to tailings and dam managementQualificationsWorking towards a degree or equivalent experience in Geological, Geotechnical, Civil or Mining Engineering with soil mechanics, tailings, or rock mechanics backgroundMotivated self-starters with the ability to manage numerous tasks simultaneouslyComfortable working in a multifaceted work environment with a willingness to work outdoors and able to operate vehicles at our sites, in various weather conditions and terrain. Valid Canadian driver's license is a requirement.Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate complex ideas.Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Word and Excel.Understanding of geotechnical investigation and analyses, soil mechanics, instrumentation/monitoring systems, or tailings/dam design principles would be an asset.About TeckTeck Resources Ltd. is Canada’s largest diversified resource company committed to responsible mining and mineral development with business units focused on steelmaking coal, copper, zinc, and energy.
