An opening exists in the Creative Services Division for the position of Web Development Intern reporting to Digital Media & Development Manager. Work Location: This is a hybrid position. The expectation is for most of the day-to-day work to be done remotely, with opportunities to visit Scholastic Canada’s Toronto and Markham offices in person to attend occasional in person events and training. Role Summary The Web Development Intern will work primarily with our full stack developer, taking assignments ranging from simple static HTML updates all the way to complex PHP application development and API integration. If applicable, there will be opportunities for the Web Development Intern to support on other projects utilizing any other skills that the intern brings to the role. Additionally, the Web Development intern will be exposed to specific industry best practices in the areas of UI design, accessibility, code maintenance, and testing in addition to building a working knowledge of the publishing world in general. Primary Responsibilities Working with the Digital Media and Development team to fulfill small development requests Taking on larger self-directed application development projects Attending team and stakeholder meetings with our partner divisions across the company Participating in the life of the company including attending events and participating in educational sessions with industry experts Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Educational background, or equivalent experience in web development (web development, computer science, software engineering, etc.) Approx. 1 year of cumulative work experience Solid skills in PHP, Javascript, Relational Database (MySQL/SQL), HTML & CSS.
