Opportunity MacEwan University is seeking a Recreation Consultant for a full-time continuing opportunity with the Sports and Wellness department. The Recreation Consultant will develop, coordinate, promote, implement and evaluate recreation leagues, tournaments, and events. The ideal candidate will assist with the day-to-day operation of the recreation department; recruit, train, and mentor student staff; update program policies, procedures, manuals; plan and deliver tournaments; and develop promotional materials. Key responsibilities include: League Programming: leading league registration including tracking, contacting, updating, and creating team and individual registration submissions. Planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating day-to-day operations of leagues, including assessing and responding to all needs and inquiries. Designing leagues, including creating schedules and standings. Assisting the Recreation Supervisor to ensure recreation equipment and supplies are maintained, tracked, repaired, and kept in excellent working order. Creating, modifying, updating league programs according to trends, popularity, and feedback. Leadership: Assisting the Recreation Supervisor in the hiring process for student staff. Providing training, supporting, coaching and mentoring of student staff. Developing and delivering League Staff training. Tournament and Event Programming: Planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating the delivery of tournaments and events. Creating, modifying, updating tournament and event offerings per trends, popularity, and feedback. Marketing and Promotions: Preparing, developing, and distributing promotional materials and creating social media content for the Recreation department. Drafting league and tournament program guide text. Discussing Sport and Wellness programs and services with patrons at marketing events. Strategic Planning: Offering changes and updates to the Recreation Supervisor about policies, procedures, student staff orientation, and training materials. Working with the Recreation Supervisor in updating and discussing goals, objectives, values, mission and vision statements for the Recreation department. Skills You will have: Knowledge of a variety of recreation and sport programs. Strong communication skills. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills. Strong leadership ability. The ability to problem-solve. The ability to work with a diverse range of clients and colleagues. Strong attention to detail. Computer skills in a Windows-based environment. Flexibility, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently. Qualifications A minimum of a post-secondary diploma in Recreation, Kinesiology, Sport Administration, Phys Ed or related field. A diploma from a non-related field, combined with relevant work experience will be considered. NCCP Level 1/2 and/or Recreational Coach would be considered an asset. Experience developing social media content would be considered an asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Position Requirements Standard First Aid/CPR C, WHMIS, Oxygen Administration. Must be able to work some evenings and weekends (as programs require). The successful incumbent will be required to obtain a Police Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check at their own cost.
