Under the supervision of the Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) Co-ordinator, the LBS instructor is responsible for the instruction of adult learners in literacy, numeracy, workplace preparation, academic upgrading, and life skills instruction. The instructor may be assigned a regular or specialty LBS class (e.g. digital skills, pre-employment preparation, etc.). The instructor will facilitate differentiated learning in the classroom and/or online using a hybrid approach of methods and learning technologies. The instructor will maintain accurate learner records / reporting, demonstrate good classroom management, administrative, and teamwork skills while being punctual and professional. Must demonstrate sensitivity and respect when working with clients from a range of economic, cultural, social and linguistic backgrounds / traditions and apply an equity lens to their work in the program.
Qualifications:
University degree and additional training/experience in teaching adults from diverse backgrounds and needs both online and in-person
Equivalent qualifications to the above as determined at the discretion of the program management
The following are considered assets:
Registration with the Ontario College of Teachers plus appropriate additional qualification course (i.e. Special Education Part I, Adult Education, etc.)
Experience working in Job Readiness / Employment / Skills Training programs preferred
Work Experience in another industry(ies) or sector(s), ideally in a training or lead role and/or proof of ability to integrate those skills into a curriculum
Experience working with the OALCF or Essential Skills
Background in Social Work or Counseling
Candidates will be selected on the basis of their qualifications and experience.
The salary for this position is $33.01 an hour (plus 4% vacation pay and 3.8% statutory holiday pay).
