Wigwamen Incorporated is searching for an individual with great organizational skills who will help coordinate and deliver our Cultural Supports Program. The Cultural Supports Program Assistant will support the Cultural Supports Program Coordinator in providing cultural resources for residents of Wigwamen Incorporated. This position requires flexibility, and the applicant may need to work occasional evenings and weekends, as required.ResponsibilitiesPromote the Cultural Supports Program to Wigwamen residents (E.g. social media, etc.)Create reference and promotional materials, such as posters, invitations, brochures, etc.Help organize community cultural events (E.g. talking circles, traditional cultural teachings, etc.)Liaise and network with other urban Indigenous organizations in the City of TorontoCoordinate the delivery of supplies, maintain inventory and setup equipment aides Take registration and confirm attendance at each scheduled eventMaintain a list of contact information of residents, as well as a schedule of future eventsMaintain a photo/video library in relation to cultural eventsAttend and participate in staff meetings, workshops, special events and training sessionsOther duties as required by Wigwamen IncorporatedQualificationsPost-secondary education in Indigenous Studies, Cultural Resource Management, Social Work or an acceptable combination of education, training, and/or job experienceMinimum two years’ experience in working with Indigenous Elders and a solid understanding of Indigenous heritage, language, traditional and cultural practicesComprehensive knowledge of community resources, housing issues and supportive servicesExperience obtaining the necessary supplies, equipment and/or resources to facilitate cultural based servicesExcellent interpersonal, planning, verbal communication, presentation, report writing, facilitation and liaison skills Computer literacy, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet and email applicationsExperience working with vulnerable and marginalized sectors, and with clients with mental health issues and/or addictionsKnowledge of historical issues impacting Indigenous communities, language, traditions, culture and experience working with the urban Indigenous community is a definite assetThis is a part-time, contract position.Please submit your resume and cover letter by 5 pm on October 4, 2024.We thank all applicants in advance for their interest; however, only those to be interviewed will be contacted. No phone calls, please. Wigwamen Incorporated is an equal opportunity employer committed to inclusive, barrier-free recruitment and selection processes and work environments.
